Super Gas?

Super Gas?
Hi Everyone!
I'm a 1 day old proud new owner of a 2003 3.2 TL, after getting rid of my HIGHLY troublesome and P.O.S. 1999 BMW 323i.
All in all I'm quite happy. The drive is great and the luxury items I didn't have before are really nice.
One question though...
The BMW manual said it needed high octane gas. I used regular and the car was fine. How is Acura with this? Do I need to use high octane or are some folks using regular?
Thanks for your input!

Ya I did a search after and after digging through a few pages, found a couple of threads...
Seems split down the middle... I guess I'll have to run some "scientific" tests and measure my results to see if I need premium...
My question more then anything else was if it can actually break down the car by using regular... Anyone?

EDIT: Just noticed you've used Acura 2000. That's where I bought my car. The owner and my boss are good friends so I got a decent deal...

I've been using 87 for as long as I've had my TL, except for one month where I used premium for the entire month as a 'test'. In my opinion, I got better mileage out of the cheap 87 than the premium. I'm not saying my test should be taken as gospel or anything,.. just what my results were. I've since gone back to 87 and don't notice a difference.

Ya - Up here in Canada, that's an extra $6 per tank. At a tank a week, it's $25-$30 per month extra. Trust me - I'm not tight on cash, but I think that spending the extra should give me something in return. If it doesn't - I'm going to regular...

hes right, i was using regular when i got my tl, was used at 50k and when i was using reg. few months later had the misfire in my cylinders. 4 outta 6, and the gas was to blame, al though fixing it was new plugs and coil ignition, but it was cause of the reg gas, now all i put is premium, and yes wit regular u do lose mileage, i noticed that big time when i switched it up.,

I was experiementing last week with different octane gas. What i found out was that with 87, the car feel sluggish and when I step on the gas, it felt like the petal was pushing back against my foot, not smooth at all, and the milage really suffer. On half a tank, it only lasted me about 1 1/2 day driving from the bronx ( my home) to manhattan ( to school) to queen (work)and back to the bronx. 89, not as rough and i did not notice too much of a resistance of change in mpg. 93, only major difference I felt was the gas petal pushing smoother but mileage wise, i didn't notice a big difference. but this was city driving. planning to test out this on the highway this weekend.

I really doubt there is any noticeable performancedifference one way or the other. I use higher octanse cause after you crunch the numbers its less than 150 a year. In the scheme of things a bought a nice car and if the engineers that designed it think it should run better on higher octane, I will trust their judgement.
I dontn think it will hurt at all one way or the other. Anyone who tells you otherwise I would be skeptical.

i use 89 religiously. over the summer i used mobil high test. and i was putting around 500 miles on my car a week. i didn't notice a damn difference just a hole in my pocket. thats was for normal driving conditions. but when i did put hightest in the car seemed to have some more balls on the top end aka v tec. but nothing to hoot and hollar about. just my

Use syntek. I put in 87 octane an one pouch and no problems. Check it out guys. I am selling this stuff and use it daily in my 2000 TL and 2003 Expedition. I get 300 miles per fuel up w/ 87 octane in the TL. That's right, the TL. No knocking! Vtec do not pull as much though. This is a guaranteed product. Do not like it, they will give back your money. You cannot lose: 1. Increase MPG 2. Protects engine 3. Clean out entire fuel delivery system 4. Stabilizes fuel and 5. Increase horsepower. Keep your engine clean after seafoaming. Go to You'll be hooked

I am sorry I wasted all your time. There are different results for each car because of so many different factors. My results are not what you will get. Is there room for improvement in your TL/CL? We spend almost over a grand on an exhaust for some extra horsepower.
If some of you guys actually did some more research before replying, then maybe your argument would have more validity. It is an octane booster so you won't actually be using a lesser octane and at the same time it keeps your fuel system clean after a good seafoam cleaning.
It's okay. Others, who have actually use the product, loved it. I've selling it for a year now, I just thought I share it with the forum. In any case, I would not call any one of you a piece of crap before getting to know y'alls, so there is no need to call it crap before even using it.

meh... if you cant afford $3.50 a tank you shouldnt be driving. its not about mileage for most of you.. its about spending less, admit it lol
the only thing i would say doesnt matter is the brand you use... newsflash for all the dieheard shell, exxon, chevron people... they ALL use the same fuel lines to run their fuel lol... thus mixing with each other's products...

Far as 87 compared to 92/93 its your choice. I wouldnt do it, especially since I drive a type-s. Ive tried it in the past on this car and performance and fuel economy suffered.
In my experience octane boosters didnt do much. I think theyre a waste of money, and they tend to coat your spark plugs. Not something I care for when spending 6+ USD for each plug...
And HOLY THREAD RESURRECTION!!

I think each brand does make a difference. For instance, one brand uses 100% fuel, where other brands may have 90% fuel and 10% ethanol. I agree the fuel could have come from one source, but each brand has its own ingredients which make it a big difference from one brand to another on the outcomes. Just like tap water, same source but different outcomes depending on water filters or no filter was used.

I know here you can get gas that has zero ethanol content. I can also buy non reformulated gas in a couple places as well.

In the same area as you... mind sharing where that is?

99 TL with 271k miles. I only use premium 91, but a couple times I accidentally put 87 in the tank before I saw it was too late. With that tank of 87 the car was a lot slower to accelerate and bucked a few times when I hit the gas from a stop. Also I did notice mpg loss, but it was maybe 30 miles for the whole tank.
