Strange vibrating noise, driver's side/front
I recently had transmission fluid changed as mechanic said it was time - 52K miles about. He did not have Acura transmission fluid so was told by someone he could use some other transmission fluid plus an additive. But since then, when I drive about 55-70 miles per hour or so, it makes a vibrating noise, sometimes constant and sometimes on and off. Sort of sounds like something rubbing or sounds like blowing through waxed paper over a comb (if anyone relates to that sound). A friend and I thought maybe it was when the transmission gets heated up that it starts up, but it can occur after driving 2 miles or it can occur after driving 40 miles. No change in the noise with speed unless you slow dramatically down to like under 35 mph. Any ideas? My mechanic is puzzled - this is the first Acura he has worked on. The closest Acura dealership is about 3-1/2 hours away.
You MUST have fluid specific to Honda/Acura. The only alternative I've heard of is GM SyncroMesh Friction Modified, which I currently use in my 2004 6MT.
Same goes with power steering...the fluids are Honda specific!
