stock vs performance/after market parts

hey guys...love the TL as we all do... recently i took my car to my family mechanic...i had to get all my brakes and rotors replaced...costed me a whopping $450 bucks, i was not pleased.
initially i told him that i was going to order some parts off of this website that i go to...i think its like www.tirerack.com something like that, not sure i have it saved on my pc at home...im at work right now.
Anywho when i told him that he says that i can trust sites like that cause although their parts are cheaper they wont last as long as the parts he's going to use. that those parts come from some chinese factory in mexico (lol) some crap like that...
although he is a family mechanic and my mom and dad trust him..i still remain skeptical..i still thing he's out to make a nice penny

I mean...i just figured..if anything falls apart on my car...or gets too old...i'll just replace is with a performance part.

any of you guys that have performance brakes/rotors or anything non stock have any problems? im mean i have the v2 air intake from aem...i love that thing

Sounds like your mechanic cares more about lining his pockets than getting you the best parts at the best price.

Tirerack sells very good products. Lot's of aftermarket parts will easily outlast OEM.

The brakes are a huge issue with Acura. Their rotors are too thin and tend to warp and their brake pads dust like a mutha.

this site is a great place to search for answers to your questions. your mechanic is playing you like a "know-nothing about cars guy". he is taking advantage of your ignorance of cars. I would always just buy the parts first and then if I don't have the proper tools or knowledge/time to install them myself I find someone that will do it for a fair price. I try to do everything myself because I just don't trust mechanics in general. some are very good and honest, but can be hard to find.
