Sticking Caliper

Hey guys, I had a sticking caliper a couple of weeks ago and got a re-manufactured one from Autozone out of desperation, but it was a nice replacement. I put it on and everything worked fine for a week or so, and then it began to stick again, so I thought it could be the brake line. Replaced the brake line with a new SS one. Nothing. Is there anything I am missing or is it possible I could have received a bad replacement?

You gotta go to the root of the problem. Is it the guide pins or is it the actual piston? Check the guidepins for grease and make sure the boot is on and not slipping off. Check the piston to make sure that there isn't any rust on the outer surface causing it to cease. Those are the only two things that can cause your brake to cease.

If you still have the OEM setup use that. It is most likely because of the guide pin and nothing else.

Guide pins are brand new and are greased with white lithium grease. I figured out that the piston will push out when brakes are applied but not retract back into the caliper for awhile. The delay in the piston caused me to believe it was a restricted hose, but that isn't the case. The caliper is brand new so there is no rust.

They technically don't retract back since there is not movement. Its just pressure relief. Sounds like the piston is having issues. I'd pull the piston out to check for any marks on it incase its been grazing against the caliper itself. Pop that sucker open to see if there's debris or something restricting it from working.

Mine had a lot of gunk, I believe from the rubber lines abrading over time and letting crud flow through the system.

I'll check that, but I can't believe that would happen seeing as how the caliper is only 3 weeks old!
Thanks for the input!

Yeah, if the old brake fluid was neglected....it can gunk things up within the system.
Try flushing with new fluid and then perform the proper bleeding procedure.

There could be something wrong with the caliper itself. If you are not happy with the caliper you bought buy another one from somewhere else and return the one you bought to shop.

Flush the old brake fluid and then bleed the brakes clockwise starting from the drivers front to passenger front to passenger rear to the last at the driver rear. FL>FR>RR>RL

Make sure that the caliper pins and contact points are lubed and working freely.
Check the pad's ears and caliper's stainless retainer guides for ease of operation.

You're supposed to use *silicone* grease on caliper guide pins, lithium grease can't take the heat...

Also, you said the guide pins are new. What about the caliper bracket. If thats rusted up inside where the guide pins go in that will cause you issue. Make sure they are cleaned out and not rusty.

As for the piston retracting. They dont retract. The pressure just comes off.
