Starting Problems with Overheating

Hi Guys,

I have a weird problem and hence i wanted to bring it to the group to get some feedback.

I have recently noted that my car when it stays out in the sun (with temps of over 100) has difficulty starting....and even after starting wants to shut off on me unless I give it gas and drive it off. This does not ever happen when its parked in the shade or during the night time.

Also, the AC keeps blowing hot air if I am driving at slow speed with temperature gauge almost 3/4 of the way up to the hot on the idle.

The hot air turns into cold air once I get on the highway and drive 65 plus speed with the temperature gauge coming down to 2/4 b/w Hot and Cold.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have just put in a new starter. new battery and sea foamed the car approximately 1000 miles back.

If the Engine wants to Stall first guess would be: IACV!

I live in San Diego but before that I was doing some stuff in Calexico where temps shy up into a cozy 115°F My car temp never went up so First thing to replace (Easy and Cheap): Thermostat!! then I would test for Water Pump Pressure! Perhaps your water pump could be binding!!

No engine codes. Yeah I was thinking water pump and thermostat combo too?

I checked the AC Freon pressures from the cheat wallmart kit and they were fine. I set them at 85 degrees

overheat--stop using AC!!!

ac low side pressure should be 25-40 pounds iirc

anything over half temp is bad news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

chances are its got a bad fan temp sensor
does driver fan run when hot,,run after car shutdown?
and pass side fan runs with ac on and when temp is hot?

assuming good wp- thats first to inspect,,--does driver fan operate when needed
easy diy--part on lower right corner of rad

I'll bet your timing belt is going bad. I just had the same problems and my belt just broke. I looked at every issue possible, even the main relay. Check that belt...

The thread below may help with the hard start problem after sitting in the sun:

I actually had the fuel pump relay changed about 3-4 months ago at Acura. They charged me 183 for the whole deal. Diagnostics and the part etc. But now I moved from Charleston WV to Tulsa, OK. Could it be that it has gone bad already or again?

Replace thermostat and bleed out any air in the coolant system.

if driver fan runs more than 2 minutes at shutdown when at normal temp = bad fan sensor

you can replace the thermo it wont hurt--use genuine honda part
but your problem starts with that fan operation
Not moving- temp goes up

if temp shot up shortly after start = thermostat

tbelt doesnt give warning,,if over 120 think about that very soon

Yeah I'm telling you check that timing belt. Could be the water pump going out and if that leaks or locks up on you it can snap your belt. There won't be any codes for this. You have all the same symptoms that I had. My fan always ran when the car was off because the car was getting too hot due to the water pump not working properly. That fan ran so much I had to replace the engine cooling fan motor too. Everyone will tell you that it's a hard job, but it's really not that bad.
