Spark plug change = white smoke?
Spark plug change = white smoke?
Hi, im new to this whole thing so bear with me.
I have a 2003 Acura Tl Base model with 200,000+ miles on it. I had recently put some cheap $3-$4 spark plugs in it a while back. I recently decided to put the spark plugs in it that was recommended which ended up being $14-$16 each! Well I put them in and started the car right up no problems, until white smoke started coming from the engine itself, more from underneath the engine. So after some research, and what I thought was coming from the valve cover, I changed the valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals along with the intake manifold plenum gaskets. I got the car back together and started it up no problem. Then white smoke started coming out at the same areas. Any Ideas or help would be awesome! I feel as tho this car can get easily another 100,000 miles. Thank You!!!

Inspect the exhaust system for traces of oil like the manifold and down pipe area, you may have an oil leak somewhere.
Does the exhaust manifolds have oil residue ? if so just clean it up and you should be ok.

I will go ahead and check that and il get back to you! thank you for your reply
Welcome JDeMers87 !!!
Replacing the spark plugs should not have caused the white smoke coming from the motor.
Was the motor smoking prior to the recent work ? Did anything seem out if the norm while replacing the plugs ?
Chances are that during the last oil change ...... oil dripped down onto the hot exhaust manifold as ErickUa5 previously stated. Could be a leaky valve cover ?

thank you both
!!! the smoking stopped like you guys said some oil, or something, must of dripped down on it. now im stuck with another problem
. the engine after started starts to loop, after about 1-3 min it stops and idles at about 1500 rpm. when it is idling it loops very very little but enough to hear it, lets say it fluctuates between 1450 and 1550 rpm constantly. I did test drive it and it did something odd, as soon as i would let off the break it would take off up to 15mph without me touching the gas. and when i would go to slow down and the rpms came back down to about 1500 rpm it started back and forth again between 1450-1550 rpms while costing. while driving it seems great although I didn't travel very far. Any ideas on what could be causing the idle change and the immediate take off at such high speeds? I did check and see if the hoses were all connected good and made sure I didn't leave anything not connected. I was thinking about adjusting the idle but would rather have your guys' opinion first. thank you again...

Check the throttle cable there should be some slack on it and make sure its fully closed.
Have you ever cleaned out ? it may be gunked up not allowing it to fully close.
Lastly check all the hoses connected to the intake manifold for cracks or not connected.

How and exactly what do I clean on the throttle body. I didn't have this problem before could it be possible that since the car didn't run for about a month or two that it could be all gummed up and stuck from not being used? Just curious about that. Thank you.

Yes throttle plates get gummed up after time, You can use carburetor cleaner to loosen and clean it off, Heres a video to help you with that.
Before doing any of that you can verify by checking the slack on the throttle cable, if its loose chances are its not fully closing.

If the car was sitting for a few months without being run, it could be that the gas has lost some of it's potency. Try running some fuel system cleaner such as "Seafoam" in the next fill-up using the highest octane gas available. Simple enough to try !!!
Okay I went to autozone and got some cleaner and while I was there I picked up a IACV just in case. I cleaned the throttle body out really good and started it up, didn't solve the problem. I put the IACV on and started the car back up and BAM!!! PROBLEM SOLVED. I let it run for a little bit and then drove it and it worked perfectly. I'm driving it to work now to make sure there is no problems so far iv put 123.5 miles on it still running great gas milage is a lot better and the check engine light has not come back on. Thank you everyone for our tips and I greatly appreciate it.
Thanks for the advice! I tried putting seafoam in it to see if that would work and it didn't make any difference. We always put the highest octane gas in it since this car "requires" premium gas. Thanks for the tip!
