Shock mount bad?

Shock mount appears to be shot on my TL ...

Two things:
1. What's the part number/exact name of item I need to purchase (any other items I should be getting in addition to this part)?
2. What's involved with repair? I couldn't imagine it being as easy as pulling the shock/strut down, slapping this on top and then reinstalling.

these are called "bushings"
they are rubber pieces that help transfer the vibrations from metal to metal contact.
you'll have to pull the shock out.
Use a spring compressor to compress the spring.
then an air tool/impact gun to get the bolt off
then replace the bushing and put it all back together.

If the car still has the original struts, you should consider replacing both of the fronts.
It's only the added $ amount for the struts, as you're already tearing everything down to replace that rubber bushing.

you dont replace this bushing!

the unit is called the TOP HAT for the struts and runs about 30 bucks thru honda, its the entire metal plate with studs and bushing
ck the other side as well
does the front end bounce a lot? new shocks time

SMART MANS procedure for those with limited tools:
Remove strut,
take to local auto repair shop with professional grade spring compressor
Pay them to risk life and limb swapping the part
You reinstall strut assembly on car
done

I kid you not, DEATH--- or at least a trip to the Emergency Room ---for you or the person standing near you when the spring compressor effs and things go FLYING ACROSS THE GARAGE
a bit hard to believe you say? Ive seen it!
more than once!

^you certainly can buy the full top hat if you wish.
or you could just replace the individual bushings.

but we both agree that a spring compressor would be needed to compress the springs to get to that part.

Those bushings more than likely took a hammering from hard hitting "dead" strut dampers.

bounce the front corner of the car 5 times,,how long does it take to stop motion?
also look at shock sides for an oil trail from blown seal

based on condition of that bushing, Im guessing the main rubber bushing plate-the spring comes up against inside the top hat, is damaged as well

once its apart you know for sure

loaner/rental spring compressors put your actual life at serious risk!!!!

Hey 14thandeuclid, so what did you find when pulling the strut assembly out ?
That had to be bumping and grinding ! The entire front suspension should be checked.
