Thumbs down Shift Lock Release

Could not get my 99TL to shift out of park. I did what the owners manual said and inserted a screwdriver in the access hole and it came out of park. The owners manual says if you have to use the shift lock release, your car is developing a problem and you need to bring it into the dealer. Does anybody have an idea of what kind of problems the car might be developing. It has 107K and I just changed the timing belt and auto tensioner last month.

There was a recall on the ignition switch interlock on the 1999 TL. Perhaps that's somehow involved in your issue?

Did you ever have that recall performed?

^ No most likely not. Its most likely the brake switch. Its a 30 dollar part and can be done in your own driveway in about 30 min.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I will focus on that and let you know what happens.

That's the exact thing that happen to mine. Here is the link to my DIY you might wanna ask if the part#'s for the switch are the same. Mine was for a 2000 TL. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=155302
