well my shift select on my dash started acting up not to long ago, ill be in d4 and then it starts flashing d4 for a sec or two till it shuts off the light. also it does this when im using the electronic shift mode and then it wont let me shift gears i have to put it back in d4 and let it do its own thing till i can pull over shut off and start it back up again. the problem usually comes back after that but not always. autozone told me code p1709 transmission gear selection switch circuit fualt. cuased by : open/short cuircut,poor electrical connection, fialed gear selection switch.

has anyone had this problem before? if so how hard is it to replace that gear selection switch?

 

This is a major problem with all 2G TLs.

In the end, this is a sign that your tranny is on the way out.

 

 

Welcome to the forum. You may be lucky enough to take out the solenoids and clean them and you might be alright. These trans have a issue with failure and you may be in the early stages of it. If you search the forum for "solenoids" or trans there are a few threads on what solenoids to take out and clean/replace to try. If that doesnt work you may be looking at a new trans.

 

i actually had my trans go out 20k ago and spent 2700 on it and its hapennin all over again?? that damn trans is a bank roll killer

 

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if the tranny is already on its way out.

Just because of how bad the 3rd gear solenoid in all of the tranny's from 00-04 are.
