I've been plagued with this issue for about a year now doing several things and need some advice. During moderate braking (which the majority of my braking falls into) only my steering wheel vibrates/shakes. Under light or heavy braking it doesn't shake.

What I've done so far (in roughly this order, each probably a few months apart):

1) Measured runout on both rotors, both are +/- 0.001"
2) replaced ball joints driver side
3) scuffed up front rotors w/ abrasive like drill attachement, cleaned, and re-bedded the rotors/pads (seemed 80% better initially, but now it's bad after 2 weeks)
4) rotated tires (back to front)
5) installed 3 new motor mounts (front, side, and rear)
6) Put new tires up in front and rebalanced
7) Measured runout on both rotors, both are still +/- 0.001"

Some items were done for other non related fixes, and not directly related - just noting them in case. What else could it be? Alignment? Suspension? Maybe rotors/pads because it did seem a little better when I did #3. I have 124k miles on it now. This is really irritating me... Have not measure rotor thickness, but suspect they are fine since they have never been turned. All parts used are OEM, and i've done most work, except for rear motor mount and tires stuff.

No other major front end work done, like new tranny or front end collision. (knock on wood). Thanks in advance.

 

Replace the rotors with good quality aftermarket items (RB, EBC, Stoptech, etc.).

OE rotors are well known for this shake,,go aftermarket and resolve your prob

I currently have the same problem (yet to get it fixed), but when I told my mechanic about it he said that the rotor is probably a little warped from the brakes over-heating due to my racing around (just occasionally of course). He told me to remind him next time i bring in my car and he can take care of it rather easily. Hopefully this helps!

From what I've heard from Honda techs I know at a few different dealers: If your have OEM rotors with most aftermarket pads, it'll accellerate the warping of the rotors.
Don't know if that'll help.

 

Honda dealer techs, moreso than any other dealer tech, seem to be indoctrinated that EVERYTHING you replace on the car must be honda. Admittedly, sometimes the factory stuff beats aftermarket, but the factory rotors in this case have known warpage issues. Certain aftermarket pads might exacerbate the problem, but it's almost always the rotors.

 

Agreed. Though the OEM pads/rotors tend to last longer than with OE rotors & aftermarket pads.
