Security System
Security System
Hello All,
This is my first post. It looks like a great board.
Problem: the security system on my 99TL is going off intermittently - it started this morning at 1 am. Any ideas on what the problem/fix might be?
Also, is it possible to disable the system but still lock the doors?
Thanx!

So it goes off by itself and its the factory system? I dont know of any way to disable it. Im wondering if a door switch or hood sensor are going bad and causing it? I wouldnt know where to start with out having my manual around. Maybe someone else can chime in?
It is the factory system, and the manual doesn't help much. Gave me a scare early this morning 'cos I thought someone was mucking with the car. It could be a sensor or switch - question is how to find it?
did you recently changed the batteries on your remote? take your remote apart again and put it back together right...If this is not the case, then take the battery off your remote and buy a new on one ebay (make sure you get one with the same #)
i had this problem and had to end up buying a remote on ebay for $15...vs $93 at acura. hope this helps

Thanx for the feedback... I took the battery out of the remote and figured I would leave it that way for a couple of days. If the alarm goes off then the problem is internal and not with the remote.
Interestingly my neighbour told me that her sister has the identical car and has the same problem and it resurfaces from time to time.
I also called the dealer today. They said it could be a switch, sensor, actuator, the remote, or the car battery. Apparently if the battery power is low then the alarm could go off (wonderful design, that). I don't think it's the battery because even with the bitter cold temps recently in Ontario the car has started with no problem.

Hi
I joined this forum because of the issues I am having with my car. It seems like I am having similar issues like you. I know it's my remote but when I called the dealer they wanted $100 to look at it and from what I told him he thinks it's the actuator.
My Problem:
Alarm will go off intermitently after turning it on. It turns out that this is happening because the door open light is on and the car thinks that the door is open. The dealer told me to disable the alarm, you have to manually lock and unlock the car from the passenger side door. After this you can lock and unlock from the driver side and it will disable the alarm.

I took the battery out of my remote about a week ago and the problem has not recurred, which of course does not mean that the remote is the problem - it could just be an intermittent problem with sensor or actuator. I'm going to put a new battery in the remote and see what happens.
The night and day the alarm went off, it was abnormally cold, so I wonder if it could be temperature related?

its the remote my dear friend. get a new one. as soon as you put the battery on, the alarm event will start to reocurr. everything you've described happened to me.
$93 remote at acura or the same remote in ebay for $15 (there's like 3 different codes on TL remotes so make sure you get the right one)
