Seafoam?

So I've come across some Seafoam videos on youtube that show use in vacuum line, gas tank, and oil. Has anybody used this, and what was the result? Can it be potentially damaging?

welcome to the forum

seafoam is well tested and enjoyed by many here
its possible to screw up the vac port method, so do the easy method,,no vac line method needed
buy 2 or 3 cans
when at just under half tank of gas = 8 gallons
add 1 whole 16 oz can and drive normally, till the low fuel light comes on
refill tank
when down to 8 gallons- put in the other can
Thats cleaned everything except the air plate in the TB,,remove air tube to air filter box and hit with carb cleaner

ck our DIY section, 3rd item down main list for gen2, look in it for `seafoam for 03` its the best one
note Seafoam really does all the things it claims and 1000 more uses
tune up in a can !
If your spark plugs are more than 70kmiles you are ready for them, to make it a real tune up

In Oil- just before oil change add 1/2 can and drive at least 30 minutes/miles
up to 200 miles for max results
change oil and filter while oil warm so crud drains out

again Welcome to the forum,,have a look in the thread titles or use search-
most everything is already covered,, unless you get a really strange problem

Through the vac port it will smoke as you introduce it mostly then a little more upon restarting. If you wanna try vac port it's not hard at all. Vac line is on throttle body facing front of the car right in the middle of the TB. Use a pliers and loosen the pressure clamp and remove the vac line. Cars gonna run like shit when you pull the line so that's how u know it's right. Get a 5/16 radiator overflow hose from any auto store and slip that over the nipple u just expose by removing vac line. Stick the other end slowly into seafoam can and suck a little at a time. If it sputters and wants to die just back the hose up till it clears then suck some more up. It's pretty easy really even for an amateur.

noobs who want to do vac port are best off using `deep creep` seafoam aerosol version- for control
If you touch the hose to the fluid, it will suck the can dry and it will backwash all over you when the engine misfires!

Per the seafoam tech person- 2 cans, using half tank method- is better than just vac port, and is better overall
Instant results with vac port, but does not address the fuel system, where clean spray pattern is critical
Either way, you still have to do the throttle air plate by itself

first you need to do a preheat drive, then apply seafoam thru vac port
let sit 10-15 minutes,,more time lets it cool down too much
We want heat in the cylinders and exhaust-cat

The smoke is the oils in seafoam reacting to heat in cat
You can hold 2000 rpm and apply thru vac port at a high flow rate
there will be a neighborhoods worth of smoke for you~

no smoke is not an indcator of clean,,it shows application method not right

Note after intial cleaning-noobs to using it in this car should repeat after a few weeks to a month, to get the remaining crud out, then you are good for a year/15kmiles
midyear/at oil change, good idea to throw a can in half to mostly full tank as maitenance dose

Its also great in the lawnmower and tools like that, lubes mechanics air tools, removes tar from car paint, and of course my Honda 2 wheeler VT1100 keeps the carbon down and pistons clean

I also had a question I redid the method through the vacport and i ran the car for about 15 mins and then I did the seafoam treatment still not alot of smoke just a tad bit, but what was really wierd and I am pretty nervous about is the fact That it made a crankin noise when i was hittin the gas to get the seafoam out .. I tried to go for a spiritful ride but 2 times i got scared because i heard a Cranking noise kind of the noise you hear when you change the gear from reverse to drive before a complete stop.

That noise is not Related to the Engine or the Seafoam Vac Method....
More like a Tranny Clanking Sound that is Common on High Mileage Trans, Replace your ATF with Brand New DW-1 it should go Away...

Hopefully, Mine does that clanking sound from time to time when engaging Reverse After D5.

But if you got that sound all the time is Not Common! but Nothing you do on the Seafoam Vac Method can disturb anything related to the sound we are talking about...

Seafoam DID cause this one--
you had a large amount if seafoam still in the plenums
Trying to get that to burn-- as you stand on the gas-- and you get bad rattle noises from inside the engine
Stop doing that!

the directions in the diy clearly state to let it run at just above idle for a minute or two until it will rev easily to 2000, then drive in low gear at 2000,,smoke will start to appear and engine will run better- when it will rev without hesitation or issue to 4000, you can run 4000 and some 2000 to 4000 romps to generate HEAT
that will make seafoam work its best and clear out residue
The cat even gets cleaned in the process!
