Rough Idle followed by CEL & TCM Lights

Only happens on occasion & the last time it happened the CEL went off for about a month.
Happened a couple times over the last 2-3 weeks.

Start car & get a low, rough idle, had it stall when I put it in reverse once. Once the car gets moving, it's fine.
Usually followed by CEL & TCM lights on. TCM usually goes off the next time the car is started, but the CEL is staying on now.

2000 TL with 211k miles.

Going to try to go by the local Honda dealer today to check out the new Si, so will try to see if they can pull the CEL code while I'm there.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Go to any auto parts store, they will read the codes for free. Without the codes all we are doing is guessing.

Yeah,.....codes help !
When was your last tune up ? Have you ever cleaned the EGR passageways ?

Could be a sticky IAC valve, dirty fuel system, vac leak, etc.
Check all the wire connections and try a quality fuel cleaner product.

Appears like you've got the new car fever !

Stopped & got the code pulled: P0304: Misfire cyls 1,2,4,5

Will be putting in new plugs & see if that remedies it, I figure it's due for plugs as is. I got the car at about 168k & it's at 211k now.
If that doesn't do it, I guess coils would be the next culprit to check out.

What plugs are recommended?

Recommended plugs ?

NGK...PZFR5F-11 is the factory original plug and works best.
Some have went with newer updated versions of the NGK !

Changed my plugs and made a big difference. Now gettting random misfire code with rough idle. start driving and it seems normal. hit the throttle and it almost stalls out then recompensates for it, but pulled into work today and engine stalled out. started just fine.

Hey Meandino, jumping on the bandwagon....do ya have any CEL codes ?
Hope that ya used NGK plugs, but for now ya may have a bad coil. Check the DIY sticky and also try a search on the subject.
Try some fuel system cleaner and have the fuel pressure checked.

At the surface, the rough idle sounds like symptoms of a sticky EGR valve or IAC valve. Very easy to check both, clean them thoroughly and eliminate them from your diagnosis. But ideally, you wanna remove the whole intake and clean all the passageways if you haven't done so.
