its called the rev limiter, its about 5k in park and neutral. there is nothing wrong with your car, unless your revving the living piss out of it. id be more worried about burning up the tranny with hard reline shifts than damaging the engine.

I have a question about the revving. After working on my cluster, I was revving my car to see if the tach was sticking. I wasn't bouncing off 5k or anything, but I gave it a good few revs.

After that, I smelled gas. I turned off the car and checked around. There was a little bit of gas leaking from both exhaust tips. No problems, but I was wondering if that's to be expected?

Now if I rev in park (even just a little bit), I smell gas.

it's because your flooding the cat with raw fuel and it takes time to burn off, and it was condensation not fuel coming out of the exhaust.

drive it on the freeway to dry out exhaust and see if problem returns.
if not- it was just revving and excess fuel (most likely),,
if fuel smell still at pipes--go with totlds thought of cannister issue

note: avoid `topping off` the gas tank-past the first auto shutoff of nozzle
thats a contributor to charcoal can flooding
Its meant to deal with vapors, not raw fuel,,overfilled tank sends fuel thru line and
wa-laa!!
details may vary-- but you get the idea

with spring temps coming= followed by a probably hotter than normal summer,,
fuel expands in the tank as it sits.. getting hotter all day
dont start out with it above full- and all will be well

push the system for no reason and a price will have to be paid somewhere~
not to mention `tankering` 5 buck a gallon fuel,, at 6 pounds per gallon

(those who removed owner book to `hypermile` should look at fuel levels too)

disclaimer: if hopping on freeway for extended drive, I may have topped off the fuel as it was going to lower right away,,but never if filling and parking--first click and done

Cool, thanks for the info. Yea, it was a long time ago. I never revved excessively since then, so no problems.

I was just wondering if it could have caused potential problems. I'll look into your suggestions just to be safe.
