how do i remove the front axle in order to remove the engine?

remove the 36mm axle nut, remove the 17mm ball joint castle nut and break the ball joint loose from the LCA, remove the 17mm nut and bolt from the strut fork then pry the axle out of the trans with a prybar on the drivers side and for the right side separate the halfshaft and axle using a hammer and prybar.

Shouldnt have to remove the axle to remove the engine unless you are removing the trans with it. You just need to unbolt the intermediate shaft (the passenger side)carrier bearing from the motor.
