rear wheel bearing?

well im not familiar with a wheel bearing noise, but recently at the sweet spot of 60kph and 100 kph u hear a really loud humming, almost like noisy winter tires.

and also when theres weight transfer/axial load , (so im going with those speeds then go side to side) u hear something grinding on the rear right wheel...

jacked it up, no play on the bjs, and took the wheel off, rotated the hub by hand, smooth, and then swaped with my summer rims, and it still did it...

so my question is, does a wheel bearing noise ALWAYS generate a noise, or can it be a sweet spots based on mph/kph...

Man, I was going to post a question similar to this... I have the same problem... I have been hearing a humming from my right rear wheel. It has been there for ~10k miles, initially I thought it was a brake pad just riding the rotor (kinda sounds like a grinding noise), but I took the wheel apart, and the brake pad did not wear differently, but I changed the pad anyway... then it got warmer and the problem went away... now that it is cold again, the same noise is back...

I initially thought that if it was wheel bearings then the noise would be loud and squealing and would make the noise at all times, not just at high speeds or low speeds... I don't know... Hopefully someone else can chime in on this....

Sounds like a wheel bearing. Early on they are usually at a certain speed but as they get worse they make more noise more often.

cool thanks for confirming, positive its the bearing from start when i swapped with my 18s, from 16s winters, with the 18s the noise started at around 65-70 based on bigger diameter...

indo

i had this prob i would say for the longest time, maybe a year? and i drive a lot..avg 20k miles a year lol, and always thought it was tire noise, but now it just got way louder at those speeds......if u got another set of rims, put it on that wheel and go for a drive, positive u got the same prob as me

Murdaz, if you decide to fix this issue yourself, post a DIY on it... I don't want to take my car to the shop unless I really have to (also because I am unaware of a reputable shop around here, currently)....

Not sure about around you, but Napa often has machine shops & can remove/replace the bearings. Probl. sell them too.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...hlight=bearing

That is right, for the rear, the new hub will come with the bearing and it costs about $70.

1. remove wheel
2. remove caliper
3. remove rotor (might take some beating on with a rubber mallet to loosen up)
4. remove brass cap that covers the axle nut as shown in the picture above, small flat head screwdriver and a hammer did the trick
5. remove axle nut ( I accomplished this with a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar and a 32mm socket, and nut came off with ease)
6. hub assembly slid right out
7. install new hub assembly and repeat directions in reverse order.

did it today and worked good! no more noise, and was easy...do what ^^ posted...

the inner raise on my bearing was seized up tho, had to dremmel it off a bit, then break it off with punch and hammer...hopefully u wont have to go thru that, took a little time...with a torch would be out easier.

Superb. You got to be glad it wasn't the front one. The front bearing is 5x harder to do and requires a pressing tool, or let the shop does the pressing.

hey, lil confused here...my rear bearings need to be replaced, and based on the above commentary, i got the impression the entire hub assembly contains the bearings, but i noticed there are hub assembly's that seem to be with and without bearings...can anyone help here? thx

specifically states "with bearings":
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...3-1708452.html

doesn't state anything besides the hub assembly:

unfortunately, i just realized this is in TL forums when i have a CL, so the cost of the assembly for the CL is actually $110/ea.

second, i'm still baffled at this assembly with or without bearings issue...why would Timken offer an assembly with and another without the bearings?

the sooner you remove the faulty bearing/hub assembly the easier it will be to get off. the friction from driving on it makes almost a weld and you will have to brake it off. (i also used a dremmel, punch and hammer)
