Rattle when accelerating

It seems to be more noticable at lowet speeds and RPMs. I searched and the only thing I could find is the heat shield? Could it be muffler, etc.?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've Been having the above problem for the past few weeks. I thought it was the headers (OBX) but after banging on the pipes (scientific diagnostic) it was obvious the noise was comming from the cat. My first thought was the heatshield so I took it off, unfortunatley that the noise was still there. It sounds as if something has broken off inside the cat and is just sitting in there klunking around..... So, bad cat? or something else.... I am far from an expert when it comes to this stuff in fact I really know nothing more then how to tighten/loosen a bolt! lol but foreal I've never delt with a blown cat so any insight would help. Thanks!

Thanks.
So yeah, just took off the cat and it seems that one of those hunycomb, filter things came apart from the innerwalls. So I'm in the process of hollowing it out right now ***check engine light*** I know but at least it won't rattle this weekend and I'll pick up a high flow cat on monday!

Well, got home with no problems. No rattle, No "check engine" light, and one loud ass straight pipe.

hmm. i am having the exact same problem right now. i have been searching non-stop the past few weeks. just tonight i took off the bottom part of the heatshield and spaced the top part with washers, but i still have that slight sound when accelerating at about 1800 rpms on my 99TL. i have the DC sport headers and i would really like to find out whats goin on. let us know if the high flow cat is all we need. i am kinda worried now though that the bottom of the cat is exposed and that rocks my fly up and puncture it. anyways, update us and that would be sweet. thanks man.

You realize that Acura would have installed a brand spanking new cat for you for free (assuming you are under 80,000 miles)

Good point but I think they might have something to say when they see the I,H,E & SC. I mean, they gave me shit last time when my seat stitching was comming out, saying that the car being lowered voids my warranty. BS I know. So I had it fixed at Serramonte Acura, no questions asked.
But yeah the point is that the SC loves the straight pipes so I'll hold off on haggling with dealer for now and leave that for when my tranny goes......

that rattling noise could be from a broken/cracked pipe or a bad catalytic convertor. you should check with your mechanic.

the hollow "HOOOO" noise is because your intake resonator might be loose. the resonator underneath the rubber pipe that connects your intake box to the throttle body.

would a check engine light be on if my catalytic convertor is broken or something inside of it?

I have a RT high flow cat and love it. Didn't notice any great gains or anything, but to me (possibly in my head)the car sounds more aggressive and feels stronger.

Also one thing I noticed is the cat itself does look on the small side. When compared to the RSX version.Post some pics once you receive it.

This sounds like the problem that I wrote about today. Is the cat covered by warranty to 80K? I have 70K on my TLS?
