A quick question.

I have an 01 TL with just over 37,000 miles on it. I typically only drive cars with manual transmissions, so I have a question about the tiptronic system. Is it normal for the car to shudder a little while using engine braking? For example, if I stay in 2nd gear and then allow the car to slow down naturally, it seems to shudder between 20 and 15 mph.

Thanks in advance,
914TL

Mine sometimes does this, as if driving a manual (same scenario). I consider it normal, given that it hasn't caused the car to run weird, or any other issues. I wouldn't call it a shudder though, I'd say it jerks as the RPMs fall, until its in the normal speed for that gear.

Mine does do that in the Same Escenario BUT only if I gas it a Little then Start to Engine Brake again it will hesitate a Lil.

But More Interesting 37,000K ????? FOR REAL? That car has been garaged for 10 years?

37,000 miles indeed. It was an old lady's car. Practically brand new. And as if it could get any better, her son is my mechanic, so it was taken care of well.

Yes, I think jerking is a more appropriate term too. I wasn't sure how normal that was in an automatic. Thanks for the advice guys.

Went to an AZ meet in here in NY tonight. Told another AZer my mileage and he went to go check for himself. Must've thought I was missing a number somewhere haha.

Thanks again,

P.S. Go to page 2 of this link to see how our meet ended.

welcome to the forum
register with acura at www.owners.acura.com and get free owner book download
Also reg at acura care 1 800 382 2238 x5 as new owner- ask if all recalls are taken care of.

Please read the owner manual for correct use of SS,
what you are doing is putting heat and strain on the weak parts of the trans
= 2nd and 3rd gear clutches
Limit SS use to the backroads when you need finite control over shifting for corners
Otherwise leave it alone
Brakes are made for slowing the car down, and are way cheaper to replace than a trans~~
See the thread `Main Tranny Failure thread` for 150 pages of why you need to be nice to these trans!!!

I would immediatly do a full fluid change of the atf to the new honda formula
May cure the shudder and will improve trans life
need 9 -10 qts to do it right,,
DO NOT go to a shop with a machine using dextron3- that will end the TLs life!!

Acura dealers can do it safely if you need shop,
but its a simple diy with drain plug similar to oil drain,,no dropping of atf pan required

The recall work was performed on my car. And will certainly take it easy on the SportShift. Thanks for the info.

clean or replace the 2nd and 3rd gear pressure switches/shift selenoids
often the root cause of shudders is those being clogged
There is an external atf filter too
