question for the experts

Okay, this morning my passenger dropped a large cup of coke all over my gear shift console. Now the D4 light is blinking.....could all that coke dripping down into the gear shifter cause that? Is there some sort of sensor in the console that could be shorting out? It was alot of coke.

I also know the horror stories about the '99 TL and their transmissions going out. I'm wondering if my time is finally up.

I'm really hoping for the coke though.

Thanks guys

^ Not necessarily

Could just be soda that got into a electrical connection. The 99's have the more reliable trannys.

Take off the shifter covers and clean the coke out.

Theres a micro switch in your console, if you spill soda, coffee or anything else like that down there it usually kills the switch. It can cause all sorts of problems. You could try to take the console apart and clean the micro switch with electronics cleaner. The switch is on the drivers side of the shift console.
