Power Steering Pump

I was told by the dealer that my Power Steering Pump is leaking. He said they could either "seal" it or I could replace it. I don't know what you all recommend. Have you ever heard of "sealing" the pump? Is this just a bandaid that will last only so long? I am calling to see how much they charge for this or to install a new PSP.

Also, they said my motor mounts (4) were broken and said the charage would be $1175.00. I know I am a woman and all but please, don't insult my intelligence! I called some other shops and for the (5) motor mounts (3 for the motor - 2 for the transmission) they will charge $332 for the parts and $260 for the labor. By the way - is that a fair price for labor.

So, would you seal or replace the power steering pump?

The pump is rebuildable and and they can just replace the seal thats leaking if thats all it is.

They are on crack for that price for the mounts and install. Find a different shop to install them

The 332 and 260 doesnt sound bad.

You can buy the mounts youself from this site

Thanks

That Dealer or Dealers in general seem to be rip offs! I will go to that site you gave me to buy the parts and go to a reputable garage to install them. If I was a guy I would do it myself! I am upset I can't even change my own transmission fluid and it sounds so easy! Guess I have to do what I have to do but I don't have to get ripped off and am so glad for this site to educate me. They love pulling the wool over women's eyes. Guess everyone needs to have their motor mounts checked BEFORE the warrant it out. I never thought I needed to take it in speciafically for that.

What a savings!

I will buy them from the site you gave me!!

The garage gave me the price that was the higher price. This place charges less and it added up to a $56.85 savings!

Now - I just get the parts for $210.30 does that include taxes? They didn't add taxes only shipping and handling. Parts were $197.44 plus shipping and handling for a total of $210.30. Then I pay $260.00 for labor. I will look around for cheaper labor. I have got it down to $470.30 instead of the rip off from the Dealer of $1,175.00. THANKS!!!!!

Remember, one of the main sources of revenue for dealerships is in their service bays!!!

For non-warranty work, always look for the certified Acura/Honda shops to do the work you can't do yourself! I got Acura trained techs that work on my car who opened up their own Acura/Honda repair shop and do excellent work! I'm sure you may have an outfit like that where you live..just google Acura repair and your city name or go to www.craigslist.org and look under services/auto repair and do a search for acura/honda. That's how I found my shop here in Denver!! Good luck!!

Also check with honda dealers. Often their shop rate is alot less than the dealer. Mine is about half of the acura dealer. The mounts shouldnt take more than 2 hrs tops to replace for a shop.
