Passport 8500 Question.

Dont know where this thread should go, but here it is.

So I have had the Passport 8500 for about 2 years now and when I mash on the gas from a stop it goes into "laser" mode. the radar detector goes nuts. Is this a default in the radar detctor or just mine going bad from sitting in the sun all the time? Or is it just telling me to slow the eff down? No cops around when it does this. Just mainly when im at a dead stop and floor it, and up to about 50 it will do it.

I dont wanna drop another $300-350 on a radar detector but i will. Its saved me more than that already.

Any ideas? Anyone??

Try reseting it. I actually bought my 8500 because my 7500 was all screwed up. After I bought it, I noticed in the instructions that you can reset it by holding down all 3 buttons for a bit. I tried this on my 7500, and now it works perfectly.

Hard wire it for beginners with the smart chord. Ive had mine since the day it came out and never had it do that.

i read the forums for the site that CJITTY posted but cant figure out how to turn the "laser" mode off. im ready to throw the thing out the window.

The mute button on the unit (not the smart cord) is the 3rd button. I dont have my instruction manual on me, but I am pretty sure that you hold all three buttons down for a bit to reset it. If you have the manual, it will tell you for sure.

If you wanna turn the laser mode completely off, you just hold down the 2 main buttons on top to go into program mode. Then just scroll thru until you see something about the radar bands. Normally, I think you hit one button for scrolling thru the options and the other button for changing the option. When you find the option about the different radar bands (not sure what its called), use the mute button on the front of the unit to change from on to off for each band.

No problem. Laser is kinda worthless anyway. It doesnt even go off unless you are the one being lasered, and by then its too late to hit the brakes anyway. Its really just a "your fck'd" announcement.

yeah mine started going off randomly about 6 months ago. didnt think much of it. then it got worse. now laser mode is turned off. hold the 2 buttons on top....find the different bands and once you find laser hit the mute button to turn laser off.

if you dont want it to go off unexpectedly like mine was....id turn it off. i read the forum about the detector and there is some kind of short or the laser sensor just goes "bad" mine got so annoying that i was ready to just take it out of my car. so glad that i turned off "laser mode!!"i just have the 8500 but im sure the programming is fairly similar to the x50. if you dont have the manual just google and you can proly find an instruction manual. if im missing something, someone please correct me.

hope this helps.
