Passenger side headlight has reddish tint?
Exactly what the title says, I just noticed it today driving behind another car. It's almost pink, and my driver's side is fine. So does that mean it's time to replace it? Seems strange though...

Yeah pretty much means the blub is on the way out but people here have claimed that once there blub went red it went for a lot longer so you might not want to replace it just yet. Also HIDs loose brightness over time so if you replace 1 you need to replace both of them if you want them to match perfectly.
Heres how the headlight failure thread works
First one goes pink, then you post looking for which bulbs to buy, then you drive again and right before you leave to go somewhere important-no light on one side.
Then you order new bulbs and fix prob!
Those with great knowledge on this board say stay with the stock part number 4600k
the higher number 5000 and 6000 or more give less actual light on the road surface
Phillips is a highly regarded replacement brand- and you can put Silverstars in the high beams if seperate on your car for an improvement there.
Make sure to wear rubber/latex gloves when handling new bulbs- if none avail- clean bulb with rubbing alcohol on paper towel- must remove oil from fingers on bulbs!!!!!
HID systems hold hi voltage after being turned off. If not sure how to handle- see a professional or ask fsttyms1

you should be able to get someone with electronics experience at your school to change the bulbs without hazard to them selves- they know how to ground the system
Tell them its HID with ballast and capacitor system.
Good luck

I've replaced headlight bulbs before, though not HIDs. What website would you guys recommend to buy the bulbs? Are there any online guides on how to safely replace the HIDs? Thanks.

I myself havent taken them out yet. Im still on my originals. But i do know its all done with out taking the bumper off
The T20 security torx can be found at wallmart. Others have been able to use a small flat head screw driver
the drivers side there is a small plastic cover that needs to be removed. Pull the 2 plastic pill pins out and the cover will pill straight up. The passenger side if you pull up on the power steering res and unbolt the washer fluid fill tube and move it you can move that to the side to give more room as well
Behind the headlights are round black plastic covers that are held on with one torx screw. take those out, and the cover should twist off. Push the harness that connects to the bulbs and turn it, it will come off. Then there will be a little metal pin that holds the HID bulb in, pop that open and you can pull right out. Reverse for install. You also might have to move the coolant overflow (i think it was either this or the windshield washer fluid) resevoir to get to the bulb on one side.
Contact our vendors like Excelerate and ask him about bulbs and prices.
Hope that helps

The main safety precaution is not to do this within say- 1 hour- of turning off the headlights.
By then the residual charge in the capacitor will had faded
If you do it in the morning after it has sat- no worries at all.
The oil in your fingertips will cause the new bulbs to wear severly and bake an oil coating on them.
Thats why the gloves, protect the parts from YOU!
Buy only NEW bulbs- many advertised -low hours- bulbs on ebay and such.
See our vendors for help- a phone call may find you parts not listed on a website too
My real fun will be installing the jdm black housings for my car- remove front end to get lights out- at least they are harder to steal that way.

Question, one of the vendors says he only has 5000k bulbs, for $150. Worth it? I would preferably like to stick with stock 4600k, but can't seem to find them anywhere. How much actual lighting would I lose with the 5000ks?
Stock is 4100K then after 100 hours or so of use, they end up around 4300K from what I've been told. That is stock and will provide the most USEABLE light on the road. Get a pair of philips D2R bulbs from ebay and be done with your pink light saga!
