over torque

hey, this is my first post.

...spent all weekend working on my 00 TL to get the check engine light to go out. change the plugs, replace the air filter, and the light still didn't go out. then I cleaned out the egr valve port like I learned how to do on this forum. it was a great diy, and the check eng light went out. still have two problems, though...

1. I over torqued one of the zinc screws that hold in the air manifold. I bought a 5/16 inch, 2 inch long screw at home depot and thought it match exactly, but it was just a little off. does anybody know the specs for that screw. NEXT TIME I'M BREAKING DOWN AND BUYING A TORQUE WRENCH. luckily, i was able to get the old screw out.

2. the check eng light is out, but the maint req light is still on. anybody know how to reset that anoying thing .

What screw are you talking about? Its going to be metric whatever it is.
The instructions for the maint light are in your manual as well

As for the Maint required light its in your manual on how to reset it.
With the car off,Press and hold the Trip and Reset light with 1 hand, while holding them BOTH in turn your key
to the RUN position (not start but run) and continue to hold them in till they turn off. It takes about 10 seconds.
If you turn the key and then press teh buttons in you will change the Outside Temp settings

I broke one of the 2 inch bolts that hold in the air intake mainfold.

They are the zinc plated bolts under the air intake mainfold cover. I believe there are 6 2inch bolts and two nuts that hold the manifold in place. The bolts are what you have to take out to clean the egr air intake valve. When I was putting the air manifold back on, I ovetorqued one of the bolts.

I hear what your saying though, I used a 5/16, 2 inch bolt instead of a metric one.

...thanks for the low down about the maint req light

Ok your talking about the Upper intake manifold bolts.
You really torqued them if you broke them. I cant remember off the top of my head correctly but they are something like 15-17 ft/lbs if i remember right (dont have my manual infront of me
