Oil pressure switch

Went to get my oil change yesterday and I had a post on here a couple of weeks ago about my oil level going down prematurely, found out it's my oil pressure switch, and the guy wanted to charge me $80 for parts and labor, looked up the oil pressure switch and found one for $8.00 and one for $70.00, what's the difference is there 2 parts? how do I know if I need both parts? If i took it off would oil poor our or just leak a little? Just trying to save some money and do it myself for as cheap as I can, any DIY's?? Thanks sorry for the 100 questions. Thanks

There are 2 switches located just above and toward the center of the car from the oil filter. The 1 wire switch controls the oil light, the 2 wire switch is a vtec switch. The 1 wire ones are usaully pretty cheap.

Thanks TLer trash, how would I know which one I need to change, I have a slight leak and I'm assuming it's not the oil light switch, but not sure, how do I determine which one I need to change, don't want to spend more money than I have to.

i would say u can take off each switch, then do a resistance check on it, to see if the internal resistance is no good. prob something in the manual tho, because you would need specs to say what is acceptable. most of the time overlimit means no good/broken wires..

It was my impression that the guy that did your oil change saw the sensor leaking. That's the one to replace. I've seen the single wire ones leak, but I haven't seen the vtec ones leak yet. Either one should be a 10 minute job; access from under the car. Fwiw, if you're losing enough oil that it's noticeable on the stick, you're probably burning some. A half qt. of oil leakage will create a pretty big mess, with lots of spots under the car.

So basically start off with the $8 piece first then if thats not it, move up to the $70 piece, I just thought it was something I can see visually.
