Exclamation Oil pan drain bolt siezed and rounded slightly

I tried changing the oil in my 1999 TL and I cant get the drain plug out. It also rounded a little bit so I stopped because I don't want to risk rounding it completely. Need some advice. Should I just take it to a shop to see if they can get it off or should I try putting another oil pan on? This engine is a replacement and the oil was changed when it was put in, but it looks like the thing was torqued down by an impact or some guy over tightened it badly. Any help is appreciated.

Just buy a new drain bolt and force that sucker off.

And don't let people do your oil changes anymore

You have a pipe wrench or good set of vise grips? I'd try that

Thanks for the input. I usually don't let people do my oil changes. Its too costly and I like seeing what the oil looks like so I know if I should be worried about something. This time it was an engine replacement and I just thought that it would be best to do all fluids at the same time of the engine install at the shop. Obviously I was wrong, but who knows if the engine had oil in it in the first place.

I would try this but the thing is I cant get enough leverage. I tried using a hydraulic jack to do the pushing on my ratchet and I rounded the bolt.

Are you using a 1/2" drive 6 point 17mm socket or a 12 point? Use a 6 point and make sure its on square. Also drive the car to make sure its at normal operating temp, the heat will help with the bolt.

I was using a 6 point 17mm 3/8" drive. All my 1/2" drive sockets are 12 points.

Get a socket for your 1/2 drive and get some more leverage/torque behind it.
