Oil Drain Bolt Max Length?

Hi! I, like many other people, have a leak. And also, like many other people, had a quick lube place use an impact wrench on my plug at some point. I've read several threads on here about fixes for this and the order in which I'm going to proceed is:
1. Get a longer bolt to grab the rear threads. If that doesn't fix it,
2. Oversized self tapping bolt, if that doesn't fix it,
3. Helicoil or the like.

For step one, I can't seem to find any solid number on just how deep the threads go or how deep the hole is. According to this image
https://estore.honda.com/acura/parts...lid=S0K3E1400A
the pan covers part of the hole oddly enough. Any advice or resources would be appreciated.

Do a helicoil before you cause more damage and have to replace the pan as a whole

The part # for the oil drain plug is 90009-R70-A00.
The link below provides specs on the drain plug:
More Information for DORMAN 090033 (rockauto.com)

The link below provides specs on the oil pan; however, no specs on the threaded bolt hole:

Lower Engine Oil Pan For Honda Pilot 3.5L 2003-2004 Acura MDX 3.5L 2001-2002 | eBay

Though I have no idea, my guess is that the oil drain pan plug threads don't go any further then possibly three threads longer than the bolt.

Good Luck!

Use a small gauge wire bent at a very small right angle at end to 'feel' the last threads inside hole. Make mark on wire where it sits at entrance of hole. Compare length to plug and the difference is how much extra thread you have in the hole.

I used a generic oversize one from O'Reily's a few years back and it's been running fine on mine.

This is where you "re-thread" it by forcing a bigger one into the current hole, right? Were there any special procedures you had to follow?

Yeah that's the one. The one I got was self-tapping. There were some instructions on the package but it was basically "line the threads up as best as you can, keep the bolt straight, and pretend its a threading tap".

My crush washer is bigger now, but I use the same torque spec as before. Just gotta be careful to line the threads up right when putting it back in, cuz it will definitely chew through the threads if it catches wrong.
