Oh Lawd!! My Car Wont Shift Out of Park

What can this be? I was about to leave for lunch and the shifter will not move, is this the transmission that would cause this or something else. Comments please.

The way to solve this is in your owner's manual, there's a spot on the center console where you can stick your key. There's a recall for the ignition switch to repair this.

my car just did this last week.. its a common problem from what the service advisor said. since my car was still under warranty, this was fix free.

I was thinkin the fuse? I mean if he saying the shifter wont move at all, then it could be fuse from the side fuse box, accidently came out? That happened to me, so check that out.

Most likely the brake light switch which is a common problem

Hot Boi 10-04-2006 02:40 PM

I went out to mess with it and I put the key in that hole and got it to move so it seems to be working okay now. At least I know what to do about it now. Thanks guys.

Its most likely a fuse or teh brake light switch. Have some one double check that your brake lights are working as well

i had the same problem and it was my brakelight switch, thank god i was still covered at that time. the dealer fixed it for me but every once in a while it still gets stuck so i have to mess with it by hand wich works every time.
follow these directions

follow the brake pedal up to the switch. press the brake with one hand then press the button on the brakeswitch with one finger and let it pop out. it works for me every time.

Guys, this problem is back again. I checked the button above the brake pedal but it is not getting stuck. I did notice that I dont have any brakelights when I push the pedal though. What fuse # should I check out or any ideas on cost to replace the brakeswitch??

fsttyms1 01-23-2007 09:52 AM

First check your fuse. They are labels on the covers if you dont have a manual to tell you. Its most likely the switch. Get a new one if the fuse checks out and replace it.

Hot Boi 01-23-2007 10:26 AM

^^ Thanks Kris, any idea on what the switch cost??

fsttyms1 01-23-2007 11:02 AM

I'm back in business, got this fixed this morning for $75, part and labor. It took the guy like 10 mins to fix at Honda Pros of Katy. And my stealership said it would cost about $200.

You can buy the part for 30 bucks and install it your self really easy

djdonte 01-29-2007 10:38 PM

Where exactly is honda pros located? im in the stafford area

deejayceas 01-30-2007 11:00 AM

Okay guys well I was having the exact same problem, I just took care of the problem this past weekend. It was easy to replace it. I saved me some money big time. I bought the part at the Acura dealership for 35.00 and went home and put it on my self. Took about 10 mins max. Just unscrew the old one and screw the new one on and there you go my shifter works and brake lights light up when I press the brake.
