No premium gas!!!
Whats up guys? I ran into a problem coming home this past weekend and trying to get gas. I went to every gas station in my little town, and everybody was out of premium and mid grade gas. The people in the station said that it was because of the last hurrican, and that they would get it later, but were not sure when.
I was just curious if any of you guys have run into this problem, and what you have done until you can find some good gas. I got lucky and found some about 10 miles away, but I was ready to start buying a lot of octane booster. (not too sure if that would not do more damage than good)
What are you suppost to do when you have no other options???

You can certainly run regular gas if you don't have any other choice. I wouldn't drive 10 miles just to put in premium. Your not going to hurt your car if you run regular in the tank once in a while. I've had to do it before when a gas station ran out or when the gas attendent (live in NJ so we can't pump our own gas) he put in the wrong grade. Just go back to premium on your next tank.
dont do any hi revving racing type driving while on 87, but as everyone has said- it will be ok- not going to cause blow up of engine- has very smart computer
Long term affects may differ, but a month wont hurt it
Seafoam it when the good gas is back!
There is a problem with the entire south/east coast supply line- they are distributing the gas they refined before the storms, and are getting new production done of refining crude to gasoline grade,,, then that gets shipped. Until then be glad you can find gas!!!
Show of hands--- who was around for the 1972 even/odd plate days to buy gas?

Regular gas won't cause engine damage by itself. If the engine starts pinging from using low octane gas and under heavy loads, the knock sensors will alert the PCM which will then retards the engine timings thereby to prevent premature detonations from destroying the engine internals. However, this is for properly maintained engines. Poorly maintained engines might have complications that will prevent the PCM from protecting them.

Yes, "could" with Long term use maybe, especially in the Type-s. What i have said is that the engine wont run optimally. And if your hard on the car its best to have premium in it, and where the damage could occur from Ping. You dont have to hear it for it to be present and cause damage.
We have a Gas Shortage here in Asheville, NC this week. Might possibly last until Oct. because of the storms S. East of here. This is the first time I have run REG. gas in the car. I filled it up, (it had about 3 gallons left in the tank) with Shell Reg. Was surprised that it ran quite well. A little less pulling power, but no knocking.
Just pump regular at any Top Tier gas station. (Chevron is my favorite.)
Having 87 rating won't hurt your engine in any way, so long as the gas is of good quality (no impurities) with little bit of effective additive.
But I'd recommend going back to Premium once the shortage is over.

I finally had to put 87 in my baby this week.
I had about a quarter tank when I filled up, and then add an octane booster. (who knows how much that helped) I have been taking it easier than usual but have not really felt much of a difference. I know that it is not going to hurt anything, but I still don't feel right doing it. At this point I feel lucky to have found any gas after going to a few places that were completely out.
Like Luke7, I'm in NC, and is getting a lot harder to find than I feel comfortable with. How are you guys making out in other parts of the country???

Tons of gas for $3.50/gal here, regular price and I run only regular. I bring it to red sometimes, rarely but when I need to pass or am a little ticked getting stuck behind a slow driver. Call pulls well. No noticeable difference for me with 87 in the tank.
Then again I'm in the bay area and there are at least 3 refineries within 25 miles.

I go to school in Nashville and gas has been in high demand with little supply. I live in NY however and my dad has told me that nothings changed. It all has to do with where they get there gas. I run my car on reg. 87 almost all the time to save money. Nothing different that I can notice with my 00 TL-p.

im in atlanta, and gas is crazy! Ive been trying to get some for the past few days but no luck until i magically found this QT where i only had to wait in line for 3 cars to get unleaded for 4.09... but its a warzone out there
I have not used premium gasoline with my TL for about 3 years now, and the difference in performance was barely noticeable when I switched. My TL is a '99 model with 150,000 miles so may be too old to care. Price of gas these days makes premium grade a luxury.

It sucks too because in most parts of the country gas is around 3.25ish. However the southeast is getting screwed with Almost 4 dollar gas. Some places its even under 3 bucks. If your also wondering why the national average is so high its because of the southeast. Hopefully all the pipelines come back on soon.
Lucky for me I live on campus and have not filled up since the first of september.

It's a bit pricier in Canada. In my neck of the woods in Ontario we pay about $5 per gallon. Now that's a Canadian gallon, which is larger than a US gallon, but when converted we pay about $4.25 a US gallon. I figure a tankful of premium up here is about $5-6 extra.
