No power to the Homelink?
No power to the Homelink?
I've had the car for 4 years, but just realized the Homelink doesn't work because I recently moved from apartment to a house with a garage. I try to follow the instructions in the owner's manual, but the red light does not come on. I have a 1999 TL. Ideas on how to fix this?
Check the fuse. If it's okay, then take the overhead console out and make sure it's plugged in.
Very easy to get it out. Pop off the bulb lenses using a flathead. There are slots built in.
After that, you will see the screws holding it in. Take those out and the console will come out.

are u sure the garage door isn't a rolling code garage? I think mines is a rolling code garage, I've still yet to get my crap to werk....kinda hard to do the rolling code programming when ur by urself
My 99TL's LED was also burnt out, and I never got around to programming the homelink till now. I tried once, but couldn't get it to work, so I assumed it was broken. When I got my 06MDX I decided to be adventurous and program both doors with homelink. After many many hours of struggling with this, the light bulb went off and I got it to work.
This happened to me the other day, and after running through the manual, and re-reading many many times.
Well we can eliminate the fuse being blown if the map light comes on. Based on everything I've read, they are on the same circuit. If the map light does not work, change the fuse (#11)
Assuming you still have power, we can also conclude that you have either a bad LED, or a bad Homelink unit.
Let's assume you just have a bad LED, since I think a new unit cost like $300....
Since most recent garage door openers have a rolling code. You need to program the homelink with the signal from both the remote opener (remote) and the main garage door opener (motor).
BOTH STEPS NEED TO BE FOLLOWED:
1. Hold the desired homelink button down, and hold down remote for 3-4 sec intervals (2 sec in your are from Canada). Do this 3-4 times. Since your Homelink light is out, you will not see any blinking to acknowledge that you have successfully programmed the remote. If all went well, homelink should now have the signal for the remote. REMEMBER the remote will not work anyway till you do step 2.
2. Find the learn button on the "motor" unit. It should have one, and there should be a led near it. Once you find it hit the button, and the LED should start flashing. You now have between 20-40 secs (depends on the brand) to do the following step. Get in the car and hold down the same homelink button for 3-4 sec. You will need to repeat holding down the button 2 to 4 times, or until you can see the (motor) LED stop blinking. At this point homelink should have the signal for the motor.
With both signals learned by Homelink, the door should work. I hope.
Good Luck!!

Boy, i feel like an ass.
As Oakville suggested, the LED is just defective and I was able to program it (rolling code). Guess I just didn't wait long enough on the first step since I was waiting for the LED to light up to indicated the Homelink had been trained.
But now my Benz's Homelink doesn't work!!

its strange that this would happen, unless someone was using the homelink on the benz at the same time. I have openers and 2 cars, and the first time I did this I ended up programming one homelink button to open both doors.
Yikes....
Anyway I went through the steps again and this is now resolved.
