Newbie - Oil pan issues
Newbie - Oil pan issues
2001 Acura TL - 247K
I will leave shop names out of this.
Back in Dec I had my oil changed near my job (shop A). No problems. 3,000 miles or so rolls around, so I get it changed again at the same shop and nothing negative is said.
This past june, I got my oil changed over the weekend closer to my house at (shop B) where they are family friend (meaning I was standing in the bay talking to the guys while the car was being serviced)
When the tech took the plug out he said "it looked a little funky and may be stripped but we will see when we fill it back up." Sure enough, it was stripped but it was stripped on the inside of the pan. He was saying that could have happened from the previous oil change where the tech tightened way too tight. I was just lucky that it didn't fall out while driving. We tried an over size plug but did not hold the oil (leaked out on my garage floor that night) so the only option left was to replace the pan, which I did.
My argument:
If there had been something wrong with the bolt and or oil pan in the past 10,000 miles, wouldnt (shop A) have mentioned it while changing the oil? I figure that (shop B) must be right in the fact that it was tightened to tight causing it to strip. In theory, I would be able to get (shop A) to pay for the cost of the pan and labor on correcting their issue, correct?
I am looking for opinions on if I am right in my thinking or even have a valid point. ALL opinions and options are welcomed!
Thanks

Its highly possible that shop A did it, but i doubt they would say anything about themselves doing it. Trying to prove it was them is going to be hard, and or having them admit to it. They could say it was like that when they did it and how is any one going to prove it?
I feel for you, but it doesn't look like your going to get reimbursed. Shop A will say it's Shop B's fault, and vice versa.
If you had only changed your oil at one shop, then you would have a good shot. Unfortunately, some people aren't always honest. Even more unfortunately, some people are stupid enough to impact a drain plug.
