New igntion switch, car wont start - help
I had to replace the ignition switch and key assemble in the steering column ~ I bought a used one from an auto recycler and installed it, but the security symbol is flashing and the car wont start. I assume it doesn’t recognize the key code, does any one know how to get the system to recognize a new immobilizer lock and key, I tried using the code for a new key but that doesn’t work.

I was afraid of that. It was a couple of my wonderful family member that stole the car (with my key) then when the joyride came to an end because they ran out of fuel, they attempted to make it look like the car was stolen, so they beat the dash up and bust the ignition. They didn’t know about the anti theft key - that’s what gave them away because the car couldn’t of been driven they way it was found, in other words who ever left the car were it was found did so with a key. This burns me I had the car 3 days when this happened the kids that took the car have put more miles on it than I have. I am 250 miles from the neatest dealer (hell of a tow bill) the dealer is just to expensive for me at this time so I will have to figure away to fix it my self – If I buy the PCM from the same car I got the ignition out of at the auto recycler am I still going to be in the same spot - were is the PCM in the car - are there any other options that anyone can think of that wont cost me a fortune? Thanks for any help
Thanks

When this first happened I talked to the dealer, they said the approximate cost would be at least 2,500 to 3,500 plus towing, I can’t do that – I don’t have it. I went back to the auto recycler and purchased the ECM – I installed it and works! The car manufactures/dealers have done a great job of scaring us owners in to thinking that they are the only ones that know anything. I also think they are trying very hard to eliminate small independent repair shops. I can’t afford the dealers, and my mistakes might cost me, but by doing it my self I will learn something and get a lot of satisfaction. These boards are very important, and we have to share what we learn so we can be in control with the power of knowledge. Yup I was lucky this time, all the used parts cost me just under a grand. I did a little research and the technology Honda uses with the key is from GM, very little original thought out there these days.

The dealer was quoting the price for a new PCM and if that PCM you bought from a junkyard was fried for some reason, you'd be out $1,000 and still have a stranded car. Exactly how did these family members get your key?
