need opinions asap please read thanks

I have a 2000 TL and had the tranny replaced 10,000 miles ago as we speak it is in the shop rite now. They said they replaced shift soilnoid c. and said come pick car up. i told them to test drive it go to 20mph and stomp on the gas... they called me back and said the car doesnt respond it just shoots up rpm all the way to redline and doesnt go anywhere... sounds like an internal problem to me. no passing gear correct?? I dont know where to go from here. I took the car to acura of stockton for a second opinion they reccomonded tranny replacement. 2 days after that i took it to a transmission shop in elkgrove called "ATCO" where the car is now and there telling me its not the tranny!!! Please help asap

Return to the shop that replaced it 10K mi. ago w/ your paperwork. Demonstrate what it's doing & ask about warranty coverage, or if none ask if they will help.

"...replaced..."- does that mean they put in a transm. you brought them, or they furnished it? Was it a takeout, or had it been rebuilt? Info lacking-

car is at the shop where they took out the original tranny and swapped it with a "Rebuilt" tranny. and a new torque converter. Im still under warranty i have around 2,000 miles left on the warranty. But what do you think about my problem going 20mph and under hard accleration doesnt go anywhere????

20mph and stomp on it and rpms shoot up? I can't imagine that would be anything but a transmission problem. Sounds like it can't find either 1st or 2nd gear to me but I'm no guru.

Sounds like a shop trying to avoid honoring their warranty to me.

So i just got off the phone from the shop and long story short they told me its not a race car. Thats complete bullshit. I dont know where to go from here. She told me i could pay 400 dollars for a extended 1 year 12,000 mile warranty. Not bad especially since i did not purchase it at the time of replacement almost a year ago.

01tl4tl will probably have the best advice for you. You've got to have some kind of protection from your bureau of automobile regulation or whatever it is in California. In Michigan, I've seen them [the mi. bar] drop the ball often enough that I'd probably hire a lawyer. It seems pretty straight forward to me; you are within the warranty. The racing angle is b.s. unless you signed a contract that forbids it, and they have proof that you actually raced the car in a sanctioned event. As far as paying another $400, what are they going to do in another year if this is how they honor their warranty now. If you go to court, shoot for getting your money back or having this shop pick up the tab for someone else to rebuild it. Extremely unlikely, but worth a shot as these guys sound like losers to me. You've been victimized, lost all faith in this shop, blah,blah,....... you know.

Tell them race car or not you are supposed to be able to floor it at any speed and the car should respond. The transmission is the issue and they need to replace it!

Just get a written statement from ASE certified mechanic or Acura Dealership stating it is the transmission!

My brother bought a used transmission from a shop in south side stockton to replace messed up tranny. Shop said it was normal for the car to "roll" backwards, even in gear! Took it to acura of stockton, had them write up a paper stating the transmission IS F****d. Told shop to either refund the money or we see them in court! Got the refund as soon as we said that!

well done. I hate when shops try and give you the run around and screw you over...

Mind mentioning the shop that is giving you the hassle? Be nice to avoid them since I live close to Stockton (assuming you are in that area)

here is what the head tech at stockton acura did, with me in the car on test drive to ck the replaced trans operation,,speeds vary with year/type but close to these, which are specific to an 01

at 25 and 35mph in D5 gentle cruising throttle:
STAND on the gas, it should cleanly downshift into 2nd and rocket forward,,
upshifting itself near redline --when you reach 55mph let off the gas, brake and repeat.
He did this 10-15 times to get the clutches hot--if they are weak it will rev up wildly.. like the OPs does

they built your trans badly or used shite parts or whatever.. but its a warranty problem

at 25 mph, flooring it as if getting on freeway with a short on-ramp,, and 3 semi trucks in line coming up fast,,a normal car will downshift and go forward in a hurry!
Its not racing it to ask the car to perform within its normal specs

Get the dealer to write the letter- file in small claims court-- for all cost you paid for `repair` plus the court fee cost, plus some penalty for the fraud and severe bs they told you along the way

Ca residents file with BAR bureau of automobile repair,,see phone book for 800 or online may have complaint form too
they issue the license to operate as repair shop- and complaints to them mean a call and personal visit to the shop
-cking ALL paperwork for a job-

if wrong has been done, they will be fining the shop-- and their actions support you in small claims court if needed
When the BAR steps in- most cases get resolved quickly
Shop can lose it license to operate at all--out of business!!
