The click you hear by the shifter when you press the brake is the shift lock releasing the shifter so you can put the car in gear. That's normal. Your brake light, however, is more serious. Check your brake fluid, is it low? If it is, add some until you get to the full mark. Is the light out? If yes, that's good but that's not the end. If you are low on fluid, it's because you are leaking fluid somewhere in the brake system. Obviously, that's not a good thing. You need to check for any signs of brake fluid leaks. Check the master cylinder itself, the calipers, the lines, etc. Once you find the leak, FIX IT!!! It may cost you some money or it might be pretty cheap to fix, depending on the problem. In any case, it's WAY cheaper than getting into an accident because you were too cheap to fix it in the first place.

Don't forget to flush your brake fluid, that stuff needs to be changed because it will absorb moisture and start to corrode your brake components from the inside out and cause problems such as leaks as well as component failure.

DirtySouthCuhz said it's the brake LAMP warning light that has lighted up, not the brake warning light. So it has nothing to do with the hydraulic brake system.

Now is it the light that says "Lamp" or the light that says "brake"

extra clarity requested. If need be, take a pic of your dash while the light's on and post it here so we know exactly what you're talking about.
