Need help!!! --- 02 tl 187000 miles (problems)

Hi everyone i have a couple questions in regards to problems i have never had before with my 02 tl.

i had been driving all day like usual and at one point i was stopped @ a light and the car acted like it was going to die. it was shuttering real bad and started making a rattling noise from the engine block. the car was warm and smoke started pouring out the exhaust and continued to all day (not pouring but an unusual amount) i tried to ignore but the noises continued and here we are a day later trying to figure it all out.

any thoughts on what it might by. a friend suggested i may have gotten bad gas but last time i got gas was 2 days ago. and it was alright up until yesterday.

Yeah, the ol gal is chokin' for her breath and ya still let her smoke !

She's got cancer, by golly....so don't be in denial, she needs ya and is cryin' her heart out for ....a few more gasps of life !

Have ya been ignorin' that yellow dash light also ?
If there is a CEL, have the codes read for free at most any local parts store. If this came on all of a sudden, it very well could be bad gas or maybe something has loosened up or just quit working. More than likely it's a coil going south causing a misfire !

Thanks karen

no codes at all which i found very odd, the smoke was normal in color although it was dark out but this morning it has done the same and the smoke looks pretty normal (no blue tint/not white as a ghost) so im not sure. no odd smells either.

No codes, with smoke coming out the exhausts, to me you have main gasket leak (or whatever that is), where coolant gets into the engine. I have seen it, generally you would see white smoke, not black smoke like oil leaks in the engine. The longer you drive the car like that, you will get engine warpped and cracked due to temperature effect, if that was the case.

^^^That would be my first guess, too. Check your coolant level in the radiator, not the overflow tank.

Yeah, ya may also want to check your oil level. If it's foamy and appears like a milkhake.....ya got a blown head gasket !
White smoke puffing out the exhaust is a classic sympton.

thanks guys for the feed back i appreciate it a bunch i work at a car and truck shop so when i got to work i through the scanner on it to dig deeper in the computer to see if anything popped up. i found that no codes where thrown but i did find that the battery signal was coming up and figured that the new rockford fosgate 12's i just put in last week and the amp that is WAY to small are killing the electrical system and i believe i got bad gas on top of that. very bizare. but the new more powerful amp is on its way and i cleaned the shit out of my injectors and fuel system. she was much happier with me today.

For shits & giggles, ya may want to have your electrical system load tested.

Make sure that everything is wired properly and up to snuff, as our TL's can become rather quirky with electrical glitches and bad grounds !
