My TL has been in the shop for a whole month!

What the hell? My tranny went out at 223,000. I took it to a shop to have it rebuilt and the guy told me it would judt take a couple of days. It has now been a little over a month and I still do not have my car! I keep hearing that the guy has been having trouble fixing it and he is always "almost done." I've been hearing that it will be another day or so for a month. Does anyone know what my legal options are here? I have not paid for the work yet, and I am nervous that my TL will never be the same thanks to this retard in a mechanic shirt.

Oh darn, I hope this is not the first transmission he is working on. You need to do a lot of research to find competent technical people for engine and tranny work.

No. All I have is a list of all the parts that had to be replaced. He just told me it was a 2 day job and he has had issues ever since. He has passed on the transmission to the owner of the shop but at this point I think I have waited long enough.

Yeah I had done some research and this place had great reviews. He admitted to me that my TL is kicking his ass but that doesn't make me feel good at all.

I'm not a lawyer but there is something called compensation. A month is way too long for a tranny rebuild, mines took a week. In my opinion sounds like they are trying to avoid something.

No written estimate at all ?
What are the parts and total labor expense to date ? Give us the list.
Tell him that you patience is wearing thin and that you need resolution within one week.
It must be an inconvenience to say the least. Are they waiting on parts ?
I think that they may have screwed something up and are putting off the inevitable.

I would go there in person and see what is taking so long. I would tell them that 30+ days is unacceptable and work out some reduction in payment.

sounds like the first guy put it together and installed,,it didnt work right
that happens when you are new to the trans and dont follow specific instructions.
ziners have done ti right as a DIY!!.... so a real shop....

Out comes the trans and tear it all apart again--thats half a days work
find incorrect work inside trans
assemble trans and install--another half to whole day
doesnt work right again DOH!!

frustrated tech removes trans and tears it apart
cant figure it out,, ready to quit...
hands the old man of the place a box of parts!!
now he has to figure it out,,between other jobs etc
BUT
in no way is 30 days even reasonable
UNLESS
they are providing,, at no charge to you = a loaner car

as kris said- meeting in person with the owner will get some answers and hopefully action
Im sure they dont want your car there any more than you do

The original list I got was:

Master Overhaul Kit
Internal and External Filter
Torque Converter
3rd Gear Drum Assembly
Piston set for 3rd Gear Drum
Acura Fluid

After that quote they did find 3 solenoids that had to be replaced as well as an additional drum. They did not change the price and in fact I was discounted 10%. I asked the tranny to be moved to someone else. The owner of the shop took it and said he fixed it. I got a call on Saturday and the guy told me that while he was transporting it from the other shop to the shop where my car is he broke a solenoid while in transit. The part is supposed to arrive today and I am supposed to be in the car by today, although I highly doubt it. I do all the engine work on my TL, but I do not know anything about trannys or I would have just done it myself. Super frustrated as I have been driving 2 Tahoes for the past month.

its less than 4 hours to drop the trans back in after its rebuilt

totally possible for an external pressure selenoid to get damaged.
we suggest replacement of the 2 externals during rebuild--sometimes on high miles trans with shift prob too,,just clean or change those external parts

note!!!! carefully ck fluid level,,only correct way is from dead cold
drive 15 minutes on freeway
get off and park safely
engine off- trans in park
remove stick- wipe insert fully
reading BETWEEN the 2 dots- not at either one--BETWEEN at that fluid temp
too little or too much is bad
total capacity is 7.3 from dead empty after rebuild
ask how much fluid they installed!
