My Rant

First off this is my apology if this is a long thread, im ranting.

i bought my tl-s CPO january 31st. the storage compartment in the dash above the cd changer was jammed. someone told me (im not sure whether or not it was the salesman or the service person) that it would get replaced under warranty, and for me to talk to the person in parts when i got my first oil change (my dealership offered a 3 year 35000mile package that i went for) so time comes for my first oil change in april, so i go in, talk to the guy in parts, and he says he'll order the part, and he'll call me when it gets in.

ffwd to today, he never called, and i completely forgot. i had gotten acustomed to not using it so i forgot. so im thinking about it after i leave work today and i drive up to the dealership, the guy at the counter aruges with me over whether or not it will be replaced for free, (160 for parts alone).

i have woodgrain throughout my interior dash console. now i have seen my car and 2 other tl-s with the EXACT same wood dash. (see pics). so i've been believeing that this is a stock part since i bought the car, but the guy tells me that not a single tl has ever come out of the factory with the woodgrain i have. it might not be stock but i thought it was because i've seen others like mine.

so the guy goes on to tell me that im gonna have to pay 160 plus labor to fix the compartment, which won't be in wood, but in black. so my questions are: is my woodgrain an aftermarket product? should the dealership replace my storage compartment for free?

The only woodgrain that's stock are the sides of the console - the trim pieces on both sides of the radio and shifter. The face pieces are aftermarket.

Sorry to tell you this, but you should always get what the salesman/parts guy/service guy at the dealership tells you in writing. Not only do many of those folks have "selective memory", but with dealership personnel turnover, you should never trust that it will be remembered or honored later. I learned the same lesson long ago.

the wood grain was a addon. it was available at the dealer. i wouldnt pay for it, nor would i pay that price. Its a 55 dollar complete assembly price

If they refuse to do any thing take it out yourself and see if you can figure out whats caused it to be jammed. It wont take long to get it out

that's the same diagram that the parts tech pulled up and printed me. he told me i would need both parts in the box labeled "6" at 88 bucks a piece.
so you say that the woodgrain was an addon from from the dealer, if they replace it they should be able to replace it with a wood one not black? thanks fsttyms1

Part #6 is a complete assembly priced at 55 bucks total. not each.

And you cant buy it with the wood grain on it. it was a add on kit (that at teh time could be found at the dealer) now you can find them on line.

Like i said before, take the unit out of the dash and see if you can fix what ever is holding it up instead of worring about having it replaced and getting a new wood trim (which im sure could be pealed off with a heat gun or hair dryer carefully and reused

Take the dash apart (takes all of 20 min for a first timer to get that out) take the whole unit out of the dash and work on it that way. And if it doesnt work why are you worried about breaking it anyway??
