My 99TL has hesitation issues, why would 87-octane lessen the problem?

My TL has developed a fun hesitation and lack of throttle response issue. After sitting for about 2 hours from a stop it doesn't want to go. It's like all the lag and none the turbo lol. Then through out the day it will get in a mood where it just doesn't want to climb like I'm carrying 4 people and a u-haul. I always ran premium and now I've noticed the hesitation is considerably less when running 87. What would explain that? Plugs aren't older than 20k and no CELs. Can the ignition system be weak or is it either it works or doesn't? Any input please!!

get the battery and charging system tested

smell the trans fluid on the dipstick for burnt smell

Cleaned the TB etc with seafoam?
clean and lube throttle springs and cables

dont run 87!! it causes the timing to retard which isnt good for the engine
put a can of seafoam in just under half tank- run that down and add 91

if you have a bad carbon prob- which you may- seafoam thru the TB or master vac port to provide instant results
carbon loading would raise the compression, needing timing retarded to compensate,,,,
in that way 87 would make the car run better

you have ngk iridium or platinum plugs in it?
not bosch or autolite?

Im trying to figure how that would cause it to run worse as the day goes on
thats really odd

being a 99 with the single egr port may be the prob.. for who knows why

call acura if you are not sure the egr recall was performed
1-800-382-2238 x5 need cars VIN
and register online--- look in `recall` section -if it says OPEN its not been done yet
http://owners.acura.com/registration...erstepone.aspx
you can do that right now-
the regular 800# customer service is closed for the weekend, and monday for the holiday
online you can know in 5 minutes

I know my EGR ports are clean atleast, gonna do another check since I'll have the TB off anyway. You say carbon build-up, where should I be looking for the build-up? Also which would be the master vacuum port?

About timing, does anyone know what timing should roughly be on a proper running TL? Mines only about 10-13 deg advance at heavy load to WOT on 87 or 91. I feel like it should have a little more. My plugs are the Iridiums btw.

carbon buildup occurs on the back of the intake valves and the piston tops
Crud also coats the intake manifold runners and plenums
Master vac port is the metal nipple coming from TB to manifold area connection
has small hose with squeeze type clamp-only 1 like it
or you can spray thru the TB with engine running too
See diy seafoam for more
and www.seafoamsales.com for tech info

Does Seaform really work that well? Are there items as in the O2 that it could affect? I am hesitant to run a cleaner through the air intake system. I would think removing the intake and plenum would be the best way to go?

I love seafoam cause of its many uses. Unfortunately for my case is made a slight improvement. The 93 still brings down my throttle response and over all power. I'm seriously lost right now. I'm ready to give up and just accept that this is how its going to run. I can't think of anything else to check on it. I strongly believe its a sensor reporting back incorrect readings of some parameter but I have no CEL's.

try a code scan at parts stores yet? dont need a dash light on to get a code
what brand plugs are you on- NGK?

may take 2 seafoam efforts in gas tank at 1 can to just under half tank =8 gal, and
the master vac port at the TB to manifold connection area.
small rubber hose with squeeze clamp - when removed a metal nipple extends from engine side = master vac port!!

use 1/2 to 2/3 of can thru master VAC, partway thru do 2000 rpm while adding more/faster rate..Deep Creep =aerosol version, is way easier to control
ck www.seafoamsales.com tech section- read every way of doing it- try a few

If you have the suspected carbon buildup and one treatment helped a little- give it a 2nd try--seafoam suggest noobs to product repeat after a month then good for a year for normal situations--you are extreme so....

you could replace the Front O2 sensor--there is an electrical test for function,
or just decide its part of the problem and see how much it helps
Denso is the OE maker and best replacement --found at parts stores
its wired for plug and play

too tight
seafoam will not hurt the O2 sensor or the cat or anything else
will clean several areas thru the master vac that removing the manifold will not
it does an ok job on the runners and plenum overall, not perfect.. but better.
Does excellent job on piston tops, intake valve stems and back seal edge, piston rings etc

The egr ports need physical cleaning by removal of manifold- thats the reason for its removal

Seafoam thru the gas: it gets the fuel lines and injector rail lines, injectors (important) and more for the piston top yada--
also cleans the cat as it passes thru

done right it can work wonders--ck the directions,,preheat drive- adding- cook time- afterdrive!! enjoy
