Misfire Codes

So my check engine light and VSA light came on today...The only reason ive ever seen them on together is when my tranny has gone out but theres nuthing wrong with the tranny so i pulled the codes...

1st Code-P0301 Cylinder 1 misfire
2nd Code-P0304 Cylinder 4 misfire
3rd Code-P0305 Cylinder 5 misfire
4th Code-P0306 Cylinder 6 misfire
5th Code-P0300 Random Cylinder misfire
6th Code-P1399 Says "glow plug circuit high side"

Now my car is running fine, i know that usually doenst mean anything. My first guess is that the plugs are bad, but they were just replced about 10K miles ago. My 2nd guess is that one or more of the coilpacks r bad. I just wanted some input from you guys before I went ahead with putting in new plugs and/or swtiching around coilpacks to see if they are bad.

Thanks for your input

When you changed the plugs - you disturbed the very delicate coil pack- they are like lightbulb filaments- suddenly without warning- they break

One is likely partially working and that will throw the multi misfire codes
Best thing is to buy 1 new one and try it on each cylinder till the bad one is located

Well if you are still under warranty why not bring the car in to have them fix the issue?

because a few times i brought my car in for an issue i assumed was covered under warranty and they claimed it wasnt so i was charged $125 for a diagnosis of a problem. It boiled my blood a little bit. Ima call them now and ask if the coilpacks are covered. I don't see why they wouldnt be though.

most things other than brakes and tires are covered under warranty. Unless its something caused by the user it should be.

I've got the exact same codes and have been chasing this problem for over a month with no luck. If the dealer gets it fixed please post what the fix was.

got the car back today...it wasnt the coil packs...the dealership claims that the intake manifold gasket was installed upside down, and that the inatke passages were dirty...they tried to charge me 115 to clean that and invert the gasket until i reminded them that they were the ones who intalled my thermoblock spacers and they didnt do it right...so i got my intake mainfold and throttle bodies cleaned for free...car feels slightly more responsive...ima double chekc their work to make sure they actually cleaned it...

LOL oh man the dealer installed it wrong then....
a good rule for shops: to look up the customer file and see what they said or did last time.
By show of hands....how many people had brake jobs done, and at next dealer visit were told the brakes were at 30 percent?

Question CEL flashing with TCS light on..

Since yesterday my car has had its check engine light flashing. Occasionally, TCS light also comes on. Some of the symptoms that I see:

- shuddering of engine
- loss of power
- i hear vibrations

Went to autozone, and they gave me following codes::
P0301
P0304
P0305
P0300
P1399 - glow plug circuit high side
P1676 - FPTDR signal line failure
P1740 - fourth clutch pressure switch circuit

Before yesterday, my car was driving flawlessly. No problems ever. I recently got complete tune up and oil change. Car has 110000 miles on it.

This problem started happening with 3/4 tank full. Last time I got the gas from a somewhat shady location, I guess I am just being paranoid about it.

Any good suggestions. It can't be the spark plugs cause I just got them changed. I haven't seen so many codes together ever, no clue.

Hoping to see the magic of collective Acurazine intelligence.

Thanks

1740 is for your trans. Its a circuit issue so dont go to the dealer screaming new tranny. 0301 thru 0306 are misfires. Check your egr. I would lean towards clogged ports or an inverted gastket like the first guy had. Oh and BTW that gasket had to be REINSTALLED upside down. Someone for some reason had the upper plenum cover off.

Thanks. I will take a look at the EGR ports tomorrow.

Do I need to do anything about the tranny circuit issue?

And finally, is it possible for the EGR ports to get suddenly blocked? My car seemed absolutely finely until the time CEL started flashing.

I do feel a tremendous loss of power while driving. And I can feel the misfires in my engine.

The could be with the ignition coil(s) as well. Thinking of giving that a shot...

Ya, I was going to check the EGR ports, it has been raining heavily here in Worcester(MA) and am waitin g for things to clear out.

I got the Denso double platinum spark plugs. They were one of the two recommended in the manual.

Usually the clogged EGR wouldnt cause a msifire you could feel. Just be aware that you need to get this fixed ASAP. You will end up needing a catalytic converter if you keep driving it like this. If you feel the miss than I would lean towards coils.

I have not been driving the vehicle at all. I realized (from reading other posts here) that the catalytic converter can go bad. I might take it to a mechanic to speed things up, I am quite busy in the office nowadays. I think the coils might be the real reason, will keep you guys updated..

Yup, it was one of the ignition coils. Just got off the phone with the mechanic. Should have done it myself, mechanic is asking for $140! Thank you everyone, I have decided to buy myself a manual and take care of such issues in the future.

Is that to install all 6? You should replace all 6. At that kinda mileage it would be a good idea.

No, this is for just 1. Each coil comes for about $45, and the rest of the money is for diagnostics and labor.

I might change the remaining 5 myself, now that I am aware of the problem, or change them as they fail over time. What is the usual reason for coils to fail, is it just their age?
