Loose sound in suspension
Loose sound in suspension
I have an 2003 TL with 40k on it. I just starting hearing a kind of a loose sound in the suspension from the front passenger side when I go over a bump. I can't feel it in the steering wheel, but it is starting to annoy me. Any ideas on what it could be? It is still under warranty. So, I am going to bring it in just trying to see what I might be in for.
I'll make a guess at this, but I don't think you'll like the answer.... My Dad's Chrysler concorde makes a loose sound like you mentioned. It's sort of like a soft thump. Sometimes it happens when the car is put into reverse too. Finally it was taken into the shop and they found out that most of the motor mounts were cracked. You could never see this by looking at it normally. A long time ago the car hit something in the road. It wasn't a big deal and it was forgotten. But we think that maybe it caused the crack that led to a larger crack later.
This caused the engine to not be fully bolted down. When ever there was acceleration or decelration it would thump with the engine torque. It also happened at seemingly random times down the highway.. It didn't always seem to need to have the gas pedal pushed. It's a guess on my part, but maybe that's what makes your noise. I have a TL, which is why I'm here, but I mentioned the Chrysler because it's the one thumping.
It could be that bumps are making that problem show up as sound... Of course it could be other things. A bad shock or a ton of other things.. Just guessing. good luck
