Looking for Mechanic/shop recommendation for Tranny Rebuild
I hope you are doing well as 2012 is literally around the corner. 2011 has been OK as I look for 2012 to be more inline to help me move ahead versus being status quo.
In preparing for the year, I wanted to drop a note to a few of my fellow TL colleagues in the Atlanta area (N ATL preferred, but beggars cannot be choosers) if there you have a recommended shop (or mechanic) that can rebuilding the transmission on my 2002-TL Premium (a good reputation with quality and service is important). After reading a few of threads here I'm leaning towards a total rebuild versus a remanufactured tranny since the vehicle is about to be transitioned to my kids in the next few years (although I may change my mind on that decision when the transmission is repaired). It would be great to hear about those local in the area that can help.
The tranny is currently doing OK as I nurse it along, but I'm noticing the slippage getting worse as the months go by. I would do it myself (as it would be sort of fun), but the time, and the facilities, to complete the project are not currently within my reach.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts that you may have on this topic.

rebuilt and remanufactured are the same end result
except rebuild uses your case and internal parts that are still good
a reman comes from a place that uses a case from another returned unit/core,
and good used parts are pulled from a big box of them to install
both get new soft/wearout parts
both will use good old parts that pass inspection, like gears and shafts
have you looked at the thread on oddessey trans from crashed vehicle?

I'm not sure how may areas have shops that only repairs Honda's, but there are a few around my way. They are fully aware of the issues with these transmissions and how to rebuild them properly. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. Thats what I would look for if you choose not to use an Accord or Odyssey, and make sure they warranty it for a while.

I used to take my car to a place in Charlotte 15+ years ago that was AWESOME with Hondas. I totally forgot about him until you mentioned it.
I have looked for threads with additional details about the Odyssey transmission, but am coming up empty (my search criterion probably isn't right). Do you have any links/threads that come to mind?
During my digging thought I saw a few notes about changing out the pressure sensors on the 3rd and 4th gears. What are your thoughts about this? I ask as it looks much easier (in addition to being less expensive and within my reach of capabilities) and actually makes A LOT OF SENSE for the issues I am experiencing.
Thanks.

at least cleaning them might help,,see DIY section
but you report slipping for several months,,thats generally clutches
shift selenoids/pressure switches do exactly that--shift the trans
scroll thru main thread section for oddy trans info

Well if you get some time off and feel like making the 3hr drive, take the car to Hondaworks in Charlotte. I know it's not ATL but it's kinda close if you have a couple hundred for a hotel room!
