Looking agt buying a 99 TL

All, I just went and looked at a 1999 TL with 132k on the clock. I test drove it and it drive really well. Although the 2-3 shift was kinda harsh.. I read all the problems people have had with the trannies.. Is this a sign of the trans going out? Should I stay away from this car? Other then that it was in good shape considering the miles.

I have a 1999 TL and the 2-3 shift is very smooth. I would keep looking unless you have a decent mechanic check it or you get a waranty on the transmission.

my 99 tl shifts great also. The 99 doesn't have the same issues as the 00-03 because its a different tranny and only a 4 speed and not a 5 so its.

I would keep looking also. Unless its a REALLY good deal that is worth having to buy a new tranny on.

Did not know that so i am looking at a 3rd gen TL 99 is a good year to go with huh? They guy is asking 7000, I was thinking of offering 6250 and see if he would take it.. I will more than likely buy a warranty for it as well.

Be aware that the 1999 TL transmissions still have reliability problems. It's just that it's more relaible than the 2000-2003 TL transmissions. The 1999 transmission has a "worse than average" reliablitly score while the 2000-2003 transmission gets a "much worse than average" score.

Also note that the extended warranty on many 1999 TL transmissions has already expired because of the 93 month limit.

I'm not trying to convince you not to buy a 1999 TL. I bought one last year and I love the car. But just be aware of these things before buying.

One reason that I felt comfortable buying my TL is that the seller had just installed a new transmission through Acura and that came with a two year unlimited mileage warranty.
