Hot start problem possibly related to the ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor

1999 Acura TL 3.2
180K miles
VIN 19UUA5644XA051612

Follow up question to the "Car Misfire/Stalling/No Start - HELP" thread .... I wanted to start a new thread to get a fresh discussion going on this problem.
My TL by VIN is a 1999 and not included in the Acura 01-001 TSB (directing replacement of the Fuel Pressure regulator and the ECM module) .... but has very similar problems to those discussed in the above thread.

? Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with replacing the ECT ? It stands to reason that if the ECT is faulty, the engine could be hard to start when hot,... or cold. The ECT provides input into the PGM-FI .... if the ECT is off, seems logical to me that you might have starting issues, though not necessarily 100% of the time. Also I'm guessing that a false cold ECT signal could result in poor fuel mileage.

So this is all guesswork for me ... anybody have any thoughts/experiences with this ?
Thanks for reading.

If #15 on the link below is the ECT; Sensor Assembly, Water Temperature (Hadsys) - Acura (37870-PK2-015) $49.01 and yours is the 20 year old original to the car, then it may well be worth a $50 gamble to change it out to to the latest part # to see if it helps with the 'hot start' problem.

Thanks zeta .... I'm not concerned about $50 so I might just try it, BUT I'm more looking for analysis about the problem from members who know about it or have done it.

Roger that.

A friendly word of advice. The 2G TL side of the forum is not known for its ample traffic these days; therefore, rather than relying on people to chime in, it may be prudent to utilize the 'advance search' function, insert / experiment with 'keywords' like 'hot start' et al., then utilize the 'Cntrl' key on your keyboard to highlight multiple forums to be searched in the 'Search in Forum(s)' section. Your best bet is the 2G TL / CL forums where, over the years, I've seen it discussed. Then start to do ALOT of reading, the answer is here somewhere.

Thanks again zeta ... I noticed that the thread I referenced seemed to get a lot of play recently, so I thought I would give it a shot ... I have done some basic forum searches for "ECT" and did not find much info to run with. I'll try the advanced search function ... thanks for that tip. I get the impression with this engine, that there are several possible issues that can affect starting and drive-ability so I'm hoping that some Acura techie or forum moderator might jump in.

I have a 200 TL and had a hard time diagnosing the problem with the car starting and then stalling. Changed the coolant temp sensor in 2016 and that fixed the issue. Good luck

Few years lates to your post!! haha. I'm having issues with a hot start on my 2000 TL. Thinking about replacing gate ECT sensor myself. Did you replace your ECT sensor and did it solve the problem?

The ECT is easy, should cost under $40 bucks and is super easy to install. I would also take care to make sure you purge all air from the coolant loop. The problem with this ECT, is that it is located in the coolant loop such that it can be in an air pocket. If this is happening, your ECT could be relaying bad data to the ECM Eng/Tranny computer. If this happens, you can have all sorts of intermittent problems including hard to restart when hot, and transmission issues like I did. If you are not sure how to do this, find it on youtube, and buy a suitable coolant refill kit. Honestly, I would do this first before you replace an ECT that could be good. Good Luck !

good time to get all the old coolant out, swap the ect and fill her back up.

there is a DIY on the coolant flush, it's easy as long as you give yourself time and have some decent tools.

dont forget the drain bolt on the rear of the cylinder block to get all the coolant out, it's a pain to reach and you are flying blind in there but once you get it you will be happy.
