Hot days results in honkage

Hi, my 2002 TL has had a problem for three years. In the summers (almost exclusively), the key fob often does not unlock the door, and when I use the key to open the door, and then start the car, the car alarm is set off and won't turn off with the key fob. So I either sit or drive around while the alarm is honking and the lights are flashing for the two or three minute alarm cycle. I've had it in twice and they replaced the locking mechanism twice, but the honkage problem persists. It happens with both key fobs, and I have replaced the batteries several times in three years. In the winter, I almost never have the problem, but in high heat it happens most of the time. I've read several similar things on this forum, but not quite this. Any ideas? Any similar experience? It's still a GREAT car with GREAT mpg - but the summers are almost unbearable.

Welcome

It can get annoying thats for sure, I had a similar problem the car thinks someone is breaking into it when its not. One day I heard the alarm go off Thats when I took the chance to test the switches and found out it was the hood lock mechanism that was setting off the alarm, unplugged the sensor/switch and finally I can relax. Its been 2 years now and no issues.

Now for your issue have you tried unlocking from the passenger side door ? what does it do. The problem might be on that side, my brothers old accord had a similar problem we had to manually lock the doors till I disconnected the locking mechanism sensor from that door since he didn't want to sink money into it, just had to manually lock it.

Welcome to Acurazine!

Glad to hear your car is running well.
It sounds like the car security is not recognizing your key fob. Getting it reprogrammed
might do the trick.

The key is working but the system isn`t recognizing the fobs security code bringing on the "honkage". The car thinks it is being compromised. Get the fob reprogrammed or check for wiring problems.
