Hot Air

My car 2000 TL likes to start blowing hot air underneath the steering column after driving a while only thing that helps is turning on AC which I don't like using, any suggestions on what i should look for?

do you have a hole in the firewall? there are several firewall penetrations for column, pedal rods, electrical
connectors....mess with anything in this area lately, or correct some other issue that may have brought this on? Does this hot air smell like _engine bay_?

I read your statement as 'after the car has been moving down the road, I begin to feel heat in the form of air from under the wheel, and that only turning on the a/c makes a difference'.

That said, if using the a/c clears up the problem, it might not be the ducting system, IMO, but I'm usually more wrong than right. :-)
