Hood problem

Alright this may be a stupid question but here it goes anyway. My hood wont stay open because the damper/piston thing that holds the hood open is shot. Dunno if its fluid or air but guessin its fluid inside it, but anyway my question is. To fix it do i have to replace the both of those things or is there like a diy where i can fix it? And if so what/where is it?

So just buy the new part and replace it? Would i need to take the entire hood off, or just have something else prop it up while i change it out?

no.. just have something that'll hold the hood up for you while you change them out.

Because it takes all of 20 seconds each to change. If your too lazy to do that id hate to see how you would put off a hard task like changing a tire
