HID goes on and off...

My passenger side HID went out the other night, and I got pulled over. So I turned the car off and lights off to. When I turned the car back and both lights were working. I didn't really think any of it. For four nights the light would go out while I am driving. All I have to do is flick the lights off and it comes back on..... Any suggestions???

Test you battery, replaced mine with a higher amperage Optima red top, light started to work again.
Battery started to die when this happened...
I have a computer in my car and it showed that my battery was really starting to decrease its ability to hold charge.
Check the battery fluid level too.

do you have a voltmeter,
measure the voltage off, running and off with some accessories on.
The green led only measures one cell, other cell could be dead, causing dead battery.

Sounds like the ballast - replacing this solved my issue... While at it I changed the bulbs as well to avoid issues later... Tried of taking the bumper and headlights on and off.

Check your fuses (probably not the issue); it's either the igniter or the ballast... Aftermarket or OEM replacement on Ebay is your best bet.

finally, almost after a year, i swapped bulbs from side to side as the bulb was going off every 2 minutes and it was the bulb that was bad.... just ordered 5000k bulbs from ebay.

I am having the same problem except installed hidextra kit with new ballast- ignitor and bulb
didnt fix it!!
so prob was same on kaixens and whatever these new bulbs are

note: still have 6k on L side and 5 on R, while I figure the prob out (have kit for driver side)
what a differance on the road in front of you!!
can see it again with 5000k~

It's the ballast. Happening to me too. You probably have a little moisture in there too. I'm waiting til mine completely goes out to replace it though.

but I have one OE on driver side
and one brand spankin new ballast and ignitor from hidextra

Yet the problem stayed the same as when OE ballast installed and immedialty
acted up

I am suspecting battery cables corroded inside giving messed up power or ground for lights

Do as already mentioned the cheapest and easiest test is to swap the bulbs to see if the problem occurs on the now switched to side.

I just experienced this very same issue as did my friend in his Porsche, it turned to be the bulbs in both cases. New bulbs problem solved going on three months now with zero issues.

Not to say that two or so years ago, I had to replace bulbs, and a ballast which was costly, bulbs were cheap found OEM's on Amazon, last ones were from a site vendor..

Im going to add a ground wire to the new ballast kit,
and replace the main battery cables- based on visable corrosion

Sorry for the reply 8 month later......So both the lights started doing it back in November. I would turn the light switch off and back on and bulbs came back on....So I got some cheap HID bulbs from amazon (30 shipped for a pair 4300k) And the issue was my Kaixen 5k bulbs. 8 months later the cheapo $30bulbs are working just fine....

the bottem of the bulb and the stock ignitor wire dont match?
compare new and old bulb ends for height differance
I know many of us run D2R,,unless you are 03 or later --different bulb base for them or something

the external wire on the bulb has to be on the bottem

last night went out within 5 minutes of driving
had to to reset 5 times,,1 after each Off, then good for next hour!
Noticed a relation to bad road bumps and light off, lending credance
to those who think its a bad solder connection down inside the relay panel

Im going to order the relay kit from hidextra,$15, to match their kit
there have been good reasons stated by ziners to suspect the change in bulbs and now ballast= isnt ok with the TL electrical specs

finally, i installed the bulbs but while installing on of the bulb i bent the wire that is covered with the tube outside the bulb. it happened because while locking the socket bulb also twisted as i tried to lock the bulb into the socket. i left them as it is because i donot want the wire to break but bulbs work fine. do you think it will affect the performance of the bulb?

Just walk into radio shack and pick up a relay for a 3 bucks and not wait. A relay is a relay. I have about 10 of them laying around.

Use the stock power wire for the signal wire. Dont forget a inline fuse to protect things
