Hid

Headlight color differ. One side stock purple-ish and the other bright white. Is it the bulb? I'm thinking bulb. Just getting another opinion as always. Don't want to spend THAT money when it turns out to be a simple fix.

you got it- the bulb death warning--any moisture inside the housing?

D2R bulb options abound,,ck our sponsoring vendors like www.hidextra.com for way low priced stuff
or kaixen brand are great units for ~100 see excelerate
ck online for other places

4300k is stock color,,many of us run 5000k its got slightly more blue and picks out road lane markings, signs, and that white tape on side of semi trailers jumps out blue from a mile away (distance perceived not measured)
6000 starts losing white on the roadway in front of you

Oh ok. Learn something everyday. Haven't seen moisture in the headlight housing. So...if I go to higher rated hid, I have to change the ballast also? I want something brighter and good lookin w/o taking away visibility at night...ya kno.

no, its only a differance in the bulbs internal gas that makes the color
Use same ballast as long as yours is working
Many of us are experiencing ballast (from moisture) and bulb failure as the cars age

you can safely use 5000k or even 6000k color
nothing is going to be physically brighter/ more lumens, than the standard 3200-3600 Lumens output all bulbs average
its only the appearent color that you can change

UNLESS you want to go nuts and upgrade the entire system to 55 watt from 35 with new special ballast and bulbs setup
those will be serious bright headlights!!

Yeah. I'm not planning on blinding anybody or get pulled over for having too bright of a headlight. Thanks on the info.

then 5000k color is your friend
looks a little more high end car blue than stock, but wont draw unwanted attention or bother other drivers

as for too bright, that would only be if you had gone with higher wattage ballast 55 instead of 35,,those are bright like an airplane coming straight at you!
or some crazy purple 8000k 10,000k bulbs,,those are considered a hazard by LE Officers

you have the names of our sponsoring hid sellers hidextra.com and hidconcepts.com
excelerate has Kaixen brand which many of us have been on a few years already and very happy..about 100 a pair for those and still cheaper than dealer!

8000K is Rated at 3100Lm and is NOT PURPLE or SUPER BLUE.
Most DSC cameras wont take the Color right 8000K is a Bit more bluish than 6K I have Both in Low/Highs and compared the 8K is just a Dip more bluish than 6K since the Highs arent Shielded they even look more Bluish than 8K.

In a Nutshell:

8K is Maximum Range Color (Artic Blue) and Performance Wise YOU DONT WANT TO GO HIGHER! Becouse everything goes Downhill after 8K

6K is OK but is Dimmed in Color (Compared to 8K) and in Some cases seems odd from Angles Lm Ratio is kinda same than 5K but you get a Distinctive Color (Ala AUDI/MERC).

5K is Awesome Lm Performance and Rapes OEM Color Any Day it is Super White but gets booring after a While it was my First Bulb Change and It wont get any better in Brightness but the Lame Pure White starts to get Old Real Fast.

So in My Experience with the 3:
5K if you dont Care about Looks just wanna Have a OEM Replacement that is More Super White.
6K Same as Above but with a little Bluish Hint.
8K A Bit less Lm than Above but want a Distinctive Color in the Headlight and Road, Real World Difference = 1 Meter Brightness Loss over the 3.

More than that is Ghetto for Sure and Performance Wise arent Meant for use on the Road since Darker HUE color vanish into the Road giving the Impression that Headlights are Off:

10K is Hella more Dark Bluish (Could Work but Attracts Cops like a Ho)
Below This is Colors that WILL VANISH Into the Road Driving with them is Tempting the Devil.
12K is Death Dark Blue (2200Lm)
14K is Purple Dumbness
25K is Extreme Purple Shit
35K is Light Purple/Bluish
55K is Red Stupidity (-1100Lm)
beyond Lies:
Green Wanker
Pink Fast & Furious stuff
But those colors get less Lm output than a Conventional Halogen Bulb!

Hope This Helps!
Lm Ratios and Colors taken from alot of HID bulbs sellers over Internet so Real ratios could be More or Less precise its just for More Info about The Myth that Revolves on HID K Ratios.

The Actual King of Brightness? : 3200K (Gold) that sits at 3800Lm.

color scale is relative to the color of daylight,,with 6000-6500 being noon/midday bright sky

as for actual colors in my experience- the 6k lose white in front of you on the road to see by
5k adds more blue than stock -enough to pick up the reflecto paint on things

Only 5K will not put some Bluish Color on them
But the 3 Sets will Reflect them from Miles Away.

8K Make them Shine like the Signs were super Green Stuff real Odd but you can get used to.

Got the 6k bulbs in and installed. We'll see how they are when it gets dark and it'll pass my visibility test. So far this afternoon, I'm quite impressed and they MATCH. It was getting annoying as hell seeing one side bright white and the other having that light purple color.

remember: the new bulbs need about 50-100 hours of use to get fully `burned in`
the color and brightness will get better with use~
