i have a 02 tl and my intake has this rain stopper between the pipe.its like this black thing that goes between the pipe to stop water to get to the engine. what is it called? because the rubber thing tore and i need a new one.

Do you mean the rubber connector between 2 metal pipes-?
Ask the guy in the plumbing dept at hardware store to show you a No Hub Coupler and see if that will replace what you have

 

Lower resonator box ensures that no water will get into intake manifold unless completely submerged. Has little drain holes in it and everything. That is most certainly not what you are referring to.

 

Is it the bypass valve?
