Help! 02 TL with "torn out" 'air box'. Can car run without it?
I hit a small steel rod sticking 6 inches out of the ground and it literally tore this black plastic "box" right out from behind the front bumper. This "box" is located just in front of the drivers front tire. It looks like an air chamber that takes air from behind the tire and feeds it up to the bottom side of the air filter box. I have 2 questions: 1, will the car run right without this or will it screw up the air intake? and 2, would it be cheaper to replace this whole assembly with some kind of K & N kit or something? I mean if I have to spend the money to fix this part, would it be cheaper to modify it to an aftermarket product.
Thanks for the help!!!

Cool man- you removed the lower intake resonator- a popular free mod to get more air into the airbox!
If you can drop the lower panel cover-under the car and remove the 10mm bolt that used to hold it in, and the small tubular piece may still be there too, yank it with pliers.
It doesnt affect smog- it does make car run better
If you dont have fog lights- use a cutout tool to open that hole for airflow to the system
YOu are set- no worries-enjoy

Great! With things being so computerized today, I thought it might screw something up by having more air in the system. I did end up losing that panel that was unerneath it as well, so one less thing to take off! I do have foglights though, but it should get plenty of air in there. So, any more free mods that I can learn about without hitting something?
