Headlight/Foglight Issue!! NEED HELP
Headlight/Foglight Issue!! NEED HELP
I went to head to work yesterday...when i turned on my headlights, neither of them came on...the corner lights and blinkers all work...but not the headlights...i turned on my fog lights to see if they worked and they worked fine...but soon after i turned them on...they would flash rapidly, while flashing rapidly i heard a clicking noise..while i was in the car...which sounded like it was coming from the right front somewhere... the fogs will come on whenever i turn them on, but continue to flash rapidly at random times..soemtimes shutting off and sometimes staying on..i flicked my brights to check that..and only the right side works...anyone know what this might be...pinched wire..relay or fuse possibly?? i need help i have to get the lights fixed so i can drive at night!! any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated before i drop a pretty penny at the dealer for some bullshit thanks guys
..hhmm, just noticed you had your headlights cleared as well. Have you had any condensation problems in your headlights? ..if so, that could possibly be the reason for either your ballast/bulb/ignitor getting moisture inside them and eventually, blowing out.
yes they have been cleared and its possible some moisture did get in there..which i decided to buy new headlights anyways soon..cause my passenger side headlight is broken on the back side...but would the moisture cause the fog lights to flicker like that giving off the loud clicking noise?
..when you say one of your casings is broken on the backside, are you referring to the entire casing, or the circular cover that goes onto the back of our casings. If your ballast/bulb/ignitor is trashed, and you have your lights on.. it could possibly be overloading your foglights, causing the flicker+loud clicking noise.
But don't quote me on that as my electrical knowledge is very limited. I'd wait for someone who knows more about electrical to post a reply on your issue. In the mean time, I would try to limit your usage of your lights (headlights+foglights) ..until you actually know whats wrong. Also, when you checked your headlight fuses... were the blown?

ok i just ripped the bumper off and in the process one of the 20a fuses was blown to one of the headlights..now both brights work....the ballasts do not turn on..and after taking the bumper off i noticed my headlights have peeled apart a tad more in the corner...so i am under the impression now that the headlight ballasts and all have been fucked..is there a way to test the ballasts?
i dont know if u can test them besides plugging in another bulb and see if they work. you might have gotten moisture in the ballast and fried them. make sure your connections on the hid fog lights are all plugged in tight and that you dont have any pinched wire.
turn your fogs on and start moving the wires around a see if anything changes.

i checked my lighting relays..and put the horn one in the lighting one and one of the hids started to work...where is the best place to buy relays? autozone or stick to the dealerships??
the clicking noises you hear should be the relay(s) ..i believe they are just below the glove box or in the pass side fuse panel next to glove box. but, I think the moisture leaks will be the leading culprit..especially with all the rain we have been having
thanks to my 30 minute convo with jitty tonight..i think after purchasing new relays from autozone and installing them, sealing up my headlights as well.. and ill be in better shape till i get my new housings!! thanks for all the help fellas..especially jitty rajca and 'ill*tl
and i will def let you know how tomorrow turns out...lets hope to light the road up nice and bright again!!

after replacing both relays..the ballasts do turn on..but the drivers light flashed vs. coming all the way on..does it sound like a ballast issue now that everything has been checked out..ballast/igniter issue maybe??
checked all the fuses..and the left head lights fuse had blown again..its a 20A fuse...the lights don't turn on but the ballasts do kick on for a minute and then it all shuts off..
hmm, i recommended the fuses and relays to keep it at the lowest cost point..hoping those were the only things that got popped.
Now, I'm suspecting you got a funky ballast, maybe both of them because moisture got into the system from the leaky lenses. And you tried one bulb at a time for each ballast, then swap the bulbs to either side? Are your fuses blowing out each time when the lights shut off, or are they just turning off without any fuses popping?

well i haven't replaced any fuses with anything BUT the exact same fuse that blew..20A for 20A...and i dont know how to tell if its a short of a ballasts...how would i have gotten a short?
Moisture is very tough on ballasts and ignitors. While you're digging around the front end, look for any signs of moisture. You can take the connections apart and spray WD40 on the connections to make sure they're connected well. Its a dielectric so it won't arc. I also tell people to seal their ballasts with silicone after they put them in. If you have to replace them, then seal everything you can. There are lots of good threads on here if you search "Condensation" that can help you reseal your system.
I have a very similar issue like Mister_TL but only on the driver side. Please help!
I notice there is condensation on my driver side light, soon after the HID is dead. When I tune on the light, the high beam on both side will flicker a bit then die. It will also blown the 20A fuse.
I opened it up and replaced the HID with a new light bulb, but still the same probkem. Another thing I notice is when I try to turn on the fog light, I will head the relay. I think that's because the high beam is flickering (the high beam is off, but it still try to light up, then the fuse would blown). Can I conclude this is a ballast problem. Would replacing the ballast fix this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help.
